Mr. Lars Sima (55 years old, Swedish nationality) and two compatriots, Mr. Mats Karlsson (55 years old), Roger Berg (48 years old) have become familiar faces to locals and tourists because of their volunteer work in recent times.
Choosing to live in the Da Nang coastal area, Mr. Lars Sima and his friends often swim, walk, and relax on the sand and discover some sharp objects that could injure people and tourists. Initially, his group only picked up sharp objects and threw them in the trash, but when they discovered some explosives such as bullets, the group feared that they would cause a fire or explosion, so they contacted the My An Ward Police to hand them over to the military for handling.

"Previously, I had information that the local police called on the community to collect weapons, explosives, and dangerous weapons. Therefore, I called on two more fellow countrymen to hand over any such items to local authorities if they discovered them while swimming in the sea," said Lars Sima.
Gradually, Mr. Lars Sima's group used their own money to buy metal detectors, using their free time to search for explosives and sharp objects on the beach. The group's volunteer work has spread to the foreign community temporarily residing and working in the Da Nang coastal area. With perseverance, over time, his group has discovered hundreds of sharp objects, broken bottles, cans, etc. on the beaches that could cause injuries to tourists when swimming. If they collect weapons and explosives, his group will bring them to the My An Ward Police for handling according to regulations.
"I have been to Vietnam many times and often choose Da Nang beach to live long-term because this place has beautiful beaches, a clean environment, and rich food. The people and authorities are also very friendly, approachable and often help the foreign community when needed. Therefore, I realize that every tourist coming here needs to be aware of preserving and cleaning the beach, contributing to the local environment," said Mr. Lars Sima.

According to the leader of My An Ward Police, due to the locality's characteristics of having a large proportion of foreigners residing, studying and working, the Ward Police have regularly organized campaigns to launch, disseminate and educate the law. The popular content is related to the peak periods of attacking and suppressing all types of crimes, ensuring security and order, recovering weapons and explosives, etc. Responding to that call, the foreign community residing and living in the area has provided the police force with valuable information to prevent, combat and arrest criminals. At the same time, they have participated in and propagated in the community to do a good job of fire prevention and fighting, collecting weapons and explosives, etc., contributing to ensuring security and order in the area.
