75 years have passed, President Ho Chi Minh's call for patriotic emulation is still like a torch lighting the way, awakening in every Vietnamese the spirit of contributing to building the Fatherland and nurturing green shoots for the cause of national development.
Exactly 75 years ago, when the resistance war against French colonialism was at its fiercest stage, on June 11, 1948, President Ho Chi Minh issued a call for patriotic emulation to call on all people to actively compete to eradicate hunger, illiteracy, and foreign invaders, making the resistance war a quick victory and national construction a success.
Under the light of his thoughts on patriotic emulation, through successive stages with different names, contents and forms, the patriotic emulation movement has developed in a continuous flow, contributing significantly to the great victories of the Vietnamese revolution over the past seven decades.
From bright examples in the country
These days, in conjunction with meaningful activities commemorating the 75th anniversary of Uncle Ho's call for patriotic emulation, the National History Museum organizes a special thematic exhibition entitled "Patriotic Emulation - Nurturing Green Seeds" as a living testament to his immortal spirit.

Coming to the exhibition, although he is 83 years old, Labor Hero, People's Artist Nguyen Duc Thin still wears the red scarf of the former Young Pioneers and presents valuable artifacts including a camera and a manuscript of a book about his thousand good deeds emulation movement to the National History Museum.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Thin was the one who initiated the Movement "Competition to do a thousand good deeds, practice Uncle Ho's 5 teachings, strive to become Uncle Ho's good children" (abbreviated as the "Thousand Good Deeds" Movement) in 1963 in his hometown of Tam Son (Tu Son, Bac Ninh).
As the “father” of a movement responding to Uncle Ho’s call, what Mr. Thin always feels proud of is that “Thousand Good Deeds” immediately became a Patriotic Emulation movement of Vietnamese children, praised and encouraged to develop by the Party, Uncle Ho and the people.
He said that the emulation movements "Thousand good deeds" that were strongly responded to by young people at that time were eating less, contributing rice to feed the army to fight against the American invaders; raising chickens to send to the battlefield; cleaning the village together, improving the fields; learning to solve math problems on the back of buffaloes; milling rice to help families whose members went to war...
According to Mr. Thin, up to now, although the emulation movement has been expressed in different contents and forms than before, the spirit of patriotism still retains its value.
Just like athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh - the "golden girl" who just won 4 gold medals in athletics at the 32nd SEA Games, came to present to the Vietnam National Museum of History the very sportswear she used to practice in Cambodia.
This female athlete shared: "Learning from Uncle Ho and following him does not mean doing anything too big or grand. Let's do good deeds, even the smallest ones, that is also meaningful and shows patriotism.
I hope that my efforts will also inspire and motivate young people to constantly work, study and practice to become useful people."
At the exhibition "Patriotic emulation - nurturing green shoots", besides photos of the patriotic emulation movement, the public was very impressed with the exhibition booth of Trung Vuong Secondary School (Hoan Kiem, Hanoi).
The recycled products with messages about environmental protection and green lifestyle of the children are made from glass bottles, plastic, etc., making viewers amazed by the unique creative ideas of the children. The most typical is the robot made from artificial intelligence AI that can pick up trash, vacuum, or the mask dispenser to prevent Covid-19 invented by the students.
Proud of the school's patriotic emulation movement that has existed for many years, Ms. Nguyen Thu Ha, Principal of Trung Vuong Secondary School, said that when Uncle Ho called for patriotic emulation, excellent teacher Nguyen Huu Dinh, later the school's Principal, responded and was extremely creative in his approach.
Ms. Ha said: “During the summer vacation, in May and June, Trung Vuong students went to suburban communes to help people harvest rice, stay at people's houses, go to Dong Anh, old Ha Tay, Soc Son... Since then, the patriotic emulation movement has been continuously maintained and innovated through many forms such as emulation to do good deeds, emulation to do scientific research...".
Currently, Trung Vuong Secondary School has always been a pioneer in STEM education in Hanoi in recent years.
The school has established a ROBOTICS programming club with a modern STEM LAB room, attracting and inspiring students' passion for scientific research and creativity in applying interdisciplinary knowledge (Informatics, Mathematics, Physics) to solve practical problems.

Students of the school participated in the 2023 National VEX IQ ROBOTICS Championship, competing with 169 teams from 33 provinces and cities. Notably, Team AANO of Trung Vuong Secondary School excelled as one of only two secondary school teams in Vietnam to win the award in the Research category of the VEX IQ World Championship held in Dallas, Texas (USA).
The principal of Trung Vuong Secondary School shared: “I think that patriotism is not just about doing something big and great. Simple things like being diligent, hard-working, promoting initiatives in production, teaching and learning, uniting together, thereby building a strong collective, contributing to promoting the image of the country and people also demonstrate patriotism.”
… to practical actions abroad
Not only in the country, Vietnamese people abroad are always aware of the spirit of Uncle Ho's call for patriotic emulation.
Like other organizations of the Vietnamese community or the Vietnamese student community in many countries, the Vietnamese Student Association in Singapore and Australia always looks towards the homeland, paying attention to creating a favorable environment for young intellectuals - high-quality human resources, the foundation of the country's development.
Mr. Huynh Tan Dat - President of the Vietnamese Student Association in Australia said: "We are aware that this is also a mission and responsibility to the Fatherland. Therefore, the Association will expand its connection activities with specialized organizations such as the Vietnam-Australia Startup Ecosystem (SVF-AU) to search for and support young Vietnamese startups with development potential."

Meanwhile, Ms. Nguyen Thuy Quynh - President of the Vietnamese Student Association in Singapore, also said: "As young people living far from home, we always maintain a spirit of learning and seeking knowledge to try to acquire the most useful knowledge and experience to apply to work and study.
Most Vietnamese students here still want to have the opportunity to return to Vietnam to work and contribute their abilities. By training and sharing experiences, we contribute to the development of young Vietnamese intellectual resources, not only in Singapore but also in Vietnam and other countries."
Established just over a year ago, the Vietnamese blue berets in the Abyei Task Force - UNISFA Mission have demonstrated their active role in the new area, leaving good impressions in the eyes of local people, Mission leaders and international friends and colleagues.

The images of Vietnamese blue beret soldiers diligently teaching at Abyei High School, guiding people to grow vegetables, and giving gifts to students and poor people in the Abyei area have truly spread the values of dynamic, friendly, humane, and peace-loving Vietnamese people to international friends.
They are like flowers that brighten the patriotic emulation movement and shine the noble qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" in the period of international integration.
