From a small corner in the attic to the first store in the shopping mall

In addition to the current store in Complex 01 Tay Son, from June 15, 2023, May Grocery Store has opened its first store in The Loop Commercial Center (IPH) Cau Giay, Hanoi, marking an important turning point in the development of this unit.

Five years ago, also on those hot summer days, a small, cool shop on the attic of Station Green Coffee at the end of Tran Phu Street, called Tailor's Grocery Store, laid the first bricks for the dream of bringing embroidery and sewing closer to the young people of 9x Vu Thuy Duong. The space is only a dozen square meters, but every little corner is meticulously cared for and contains the passion of young people for a traditional craft.

Initially, Thuy Duong and her friends who shared the same hobby of making handicrafts only wanted to have a small space to work with their passion and gradually spread that love to more people.

"At that time, we just slowly sold goods and sat there sewing and embroidering, then posted instructional videos on YouTube and Facebook. We didn't expect that those videos would be widely received, and then more and more people came to us to buy materials, leaving us unable to react. We realized that there were many people out there who shared the same interests and we had the basis to develop this business model in a more systematic and serious way, so we decided to establish MAY Art & Craft Vietnam Co., Ltd." - Thuy Duong shared.

Embroidery without skills

After establishing the company, Thuy Duong and her friends cherished the idea of publishing the first photo book about hand embroidery in Vietnam. Researching embroidery techniques from East to West, practicing and applying them to hundreds of embroidery works from basic to complex, MAY Art and Craft Vietnam has brought hand embroidery closer to young people with a new look that is both strange and familiar, which we often call modern embroidery.

Different from traditional embroidery, modern embroidery has the appearance of 3D embroidery stitches in addition to the basic stitches embroidered close to the fabric like before, making the embroidery more vivid. The color scheme is also more novel, promoting the creativity and personal mark of each person through each embroidery.

By March 2022, after a long time of incubation and compilation, the photo book "Embroidery without a knack" with instructions on 16 basic, popular and highly applicable modern embroidery stitches was officially published and received positive reception from the community.

Also from 2022, MAY started developing new handicrafts such as punch needle embroidery, heat shrink plastic, mosaic stone inlay... At the same time, it organizes handicraft and art workshops with a variety of subjects.
