Singaporean referee Ahmad A'Qashah Bin Ahmad Al Badowe will officiate the highlight match of round 13 of V-League 2023, between Binh Dinh and HAGL on July 2.
Mr Ahmad A'Qashah Bin Ahmad Al Badowe studied refereeing in 2006, and four years later made his debut in the Singapore National Championship.
A leader of Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company VPF told VnExpress on the evening of June 28: "The match between Binh Dinh and HAGL is determined to be the key match of round 13, when both sides are fighting to keep the hope of entering the top 8, which means playing the second stage of the championship race instead of staying in the league. Therefore, we decided to invite a foreign referee to officiate this match."
The invited referee is Mr. Ahmad A'Qashah Bin Ahmad Al Badowe, born in 1987, Singaporean nationality. He came to Vietnam to officiate the decisive match for the 2016 V-League championship between Quang Ninh and Hanoi T&T (the predecessor of Hanoi FC).
HAGL is not in good form, having drawn eight and won only two after 12 rounds. The mountain town team has therefore fallen to 9th place with 14 points. To break into the top 8, coach Kiatisuk and his team must beat Binh Dinh, a team two places above them with two more points. If they draw or lose, Mr. Duc's team will end the first stage in the bottom six and have to play the second stage to compete for relegation.
Refereeing is one of the V-League's most pressing issues, but has never been completely resolved. Most recently, in round 12 on June 25, assistant Pham Hoai Tam made a mistake that affected the outcome of the match between SLNA and Binh Dinh. Mr. Tam raised the flag to flag Pham Van Thanh for offside, leading to main referee Tran Dinh Thinh taking away Binh Dinh's goal, even though their player was not offside nor did he collide with SLNA players. After the 0-0 draw, Binh Dinh's coaching staff was angry and asked VPF to handle the referee team.
To help limit similar errors, VPF is preparing to apply VAR. 18 new referees who have undergone courses taught by FIFA experts took the test and received the passing notice today, June 28. VPF said that two VAR cars have also been completed and the technology is expected to be applied in the V-League around August.
