The Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) met with the Indonesian House of Representatives Committee X on March 5 to discuss the naturalization of three players, Emil Audero Mulyadi, Dean James and Joey Pelupessy. Committee X of the Indonesian House of Representatives approved the decision to grant citizenship to the three players.
Committee X is one of the 13 committees of the lower house of the Indonesian parliament (DPR RI), with a scope of duties in the fields of Education, Sports, Science and Technology.
A notable detail that caused a stir in the Indonesian media was the statement of Ahmad Dhani, a member of Committee X, during the meeting. He suggested that PSSI could naturalize players over 40 years old, then encourage them to marry Indonesian women to give birth to a future generation of talented players.
“Naturalization does not have to be for active players. We can also naturalize good players over 40 years old and then match them with Indonesian women. We hope their children will become talented football players in the future. This program can be budgeted for 2026. This is a groundbreaking idea,” Ahmad Dhani said.
Ahmad Dhani, a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives' Committee X, made controversial remarks about naturalizing players.
“Players over 40, maybe divorced, we will help them find a partner in Indonesia. Only for men, especially if they are Muslims, they can have four wives,” said Ahmad Dhani.
"I'm all for naturalization, even up to 50 players, because it's part of a revolution in football. Revolutions have to be groundbreaking.
However, I suggest reducing the number of white players, in quotes blond hair, blue eyes because in my opinion, that does not look suitable for Indonesia. Let's find players with the same race as us, maybe from Korea or Africa, as long as they have similarities with us."

Ahmad Dhani’s statement immediately attracted attention and caused a lot of controversy. Liputan6 commented: “Although controversial, Ahmad Dhani’s idea shows that the naturalization policy is still a hot topic in Indonesia. With many different views, PSSI needs to find the optimal strategy, not only to ensure the quality of the Indonesian team but also to preserve the national football identity, so that Indonesian football can develop in its own way.”
