On the morning of June 25, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Lak province held a conference to deploy solutions to prevent and control livestock and poultry diseases in the last months of 2024. According to preliminary information, from the beginning of the year to April 12, 2020, in Dak Lak province, African Swine Fever (ASF) occurred in 17 households, 13 villages, 9 communes of 07 districts (Kong Nang; Lak, Krong Bong, Krong Pak, Ea Sup, Cu M'gar and Cu Kuin), killing and destroying 189 pigs with a total weight of 6,335 kg. The whole province has no ASF epidemic.
Regarding Rabies in animals: from the beginning of the year until now, in Dak Lak province, 12 dogs have been detected and recorded with Rabies, in 12 households, 12 villages/hamlets, 10 communes/wards/towns, 6 districts. According to the report of the Dak Lak Provincial Center for Disease Control, 05 people have died suspected of having Rabies. It is assessed that the situation of Rabies in dogs and cats may continue to arise and spread in the coming time, affecting human health, life and social security.

For foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in cattle, lumpy skin disease in cattle, and avian influenza, there have been no recorded outbreaks in the first 6 months of the year.
Currently, the province has 27 centralized animal slaughterhouses; however, only 22 centralized animal slaughterhouses can be controlled (03 facilities are temporarily suspended due to failure to correct errors, not meeting operating conditions, 02 facilities have stopped operating).
According to the general assessment, the coordination of State management of livestock and poultry slaughtering activities in some localities in the province has not been focused on, concerned, and has not been implemented drastically and synchronously according to State regulations. In one locality, because a centralized slaughterhouse has not been built, slaughtering activities still take place spontaneously in residential areas, and there are many small-scale animal slaughterhouses; the management and control of animal slaughtering activities are mainly assigned to the grassroots veterinary force, and due to limited authority, there are many difficulties and shortcomings in management work.

In his concluding remarks, Mr. Nguyen Van Ha - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development requested localities in the province to pay attention to effectively implementing the prevention of 5 types of epidemics, namely African swine fever, avian influenza, rabies in cats and dogs, lumpy skin disease and foot-and-mouth disease.
To effectively implement epidemic prevention work, the livestock industry and localities are requested to implement the following groups of solutions: Strongly disseminate information to livestock farmers about epidemic prevention work; actively implement vaccination work; quarantine and slaughter control; epidemic scenarios at different levels (village/hamlet, commune/ward/town, district/town, city, province) to avoid delays; disease surveillance work; building epidemic-safe facilities and epidemic-safe zones; identifying key livestock areas, closely coordinating with localities such as Krong Pac, Cu M'gar, Ea Kar, Buon Ma Thuot, Buon Don (5 key areas) to build epidemic-safe zones.
