Delegates attending the Ceremony

In the solemn atmosphere of the Ceremony, delegates, officers and soldiers of Dak Trung Prison reviewed the historical journey of the unit over the past 50 years with many difficulties, challenges and many remarkable achievements.

50 years ago, the victory of Buon Ma Thuot opened the historic Ho Chi Minh campaign, liberating the South and unifying the country. Immediately after the liberation of Buon Ma Thuot, thousands of puppet soldiers, puppet authorities and counter-revolutionaries were arrested, thousands of others surrendered to the revolutionary government. Faced with this situation, the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee established a prison camp to manage and detain these prisoners. In order to prevent the enemy from organizing a counter-attack to capture Buon Ma Thuot town, the Security Department transferred the prisoners to the rear. In response to these requests, the MeWal re-education camp was established, stationed in the deep forest of Quang Phu commune, Ea Sup district (now Cu M'gar district). In 1982, the MeWal re-education camp was renamed the Dak Trung prison camp for management, education and rehabilitation of prisoners. In 1996, the Dak Trung prison camp was transferred from the Dak Lak Provincial Police to the Ministry of Public Security for management.

Comrade Vo Van Canh - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council awarded the Emulation Flag of the Provincial People's Committee to Dak Trung Prison - the leading unit in the emulation movement.

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Thanh Quang, Warden of Dak Trung Prison, said: In recent years, the number of prisoners sent to Dak Trung Prison to serve their sentences has increased; at times the prison exceeded its detention capacity by over 150%, many prisoners had long sentences, many criminal records, bad personal backgrounds, were reckless, and dangerous recidivists; when entering the prison, they brought with them many infectious diseases leading to mental disorders, behavioral disorders, and paranoia. However, with the solidarity and unity of the Party Committee, unit leaders, officers, and soldiers through the periods, Dak Trung Prison has excellently completed its assigned political tasks, built the Party Committee and unit to be increasingly clean and strong; performed well the functions and tasks in the work of managing detention, educating, and reforming prisoners, focusing on building a green, clean, and beautiful educational environment, with the motto "education, persuasion, and transformation of the subjects are the main things". Every year, the Camp organizes cultural, artistic, and sports activities, distributes books, and rotates 2,400 books for prisoners to read during holidays and breaks; organizes film screenings for prisoners to watch. At the same time, the Camp focuses on vocational training and vocational training, eliminating illiteracy, and providing health check-ups for prisoners; establishes a Golden Heart Fund to support sick prisoners and prisoners without relatives to visit during holidays and Tet...
