The auction house even placed a warning line of "mature content" over the image of the sketch. To admire this sketch, the public can only click on the warning line to view the work on the auction house's homepage.

This move has caused controversy because the sketch is considered a work of art by a famous artist, but the auction house's overly cautious treatment of the work has left many art researchers and the public feeling "hesitant".

We live in an age where a lot of informational content comes with a warning label to help viewers prepare mentally. However, putting a warning label on a work of art by a famous artist is frowned upon by many.

The sketch, titled The French Bed, was made by the Dutch artist Rembrandt in 1646. For many, the sketch is not too sensitive, but the way Christie's auction house handled it surprised many people.

The sketch was put up for sale in an auction called Old Masters I. The auction took place on December 7. The work The French Bed was sold for £189,000 (equivalent to VND5.7 billion).

The auction house had previously estimated the price at £250,000-400,000. Information about the sketch on the auction house's website said it was a rare "hot" sketch by the famous artist Rembrandt.

The auction house emphasized that the sketch does not contain any... pornographic elements, on the contrary, the work contains a sensual beauty and a bit of light humor. The auction house's comments surrounding the work made many people feel even more strange about the decision to hide the painting and "cover it" with a warning about "mature content".

For paintings by famous artists, especially masters in the history of world painting, "covering", blurring, attaching warnings... makes many people feel that this is a disrespectful behavior towards both the artist and the work.

British art historian Richard Morris told the media that he had never seen a warning like this appear on a painting that was displayed or auctioned.

According to expert Morris, the work has a "hot" element, but does not depict anything too sensitive: "This is a sketch that shows the progress and modernity of the time when the work was made. The sketch shows a love of life in a very genuine way.

I think the great painter Rembrandt would have laughed at the care with which posterity has treated his sketch.
