[Photo] Overcoming all difficulties, speeding up construction progress of Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion Project

According to the plan, there are less than 6 months left until the project's first generator is ready to generate electricity. Currently, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), Power Project Management Board 1 (EVNPMB1) and related units are focusing on speeding up the progress to generate electricity for both generators in 2025.

The Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion Project is invested by EVN, with EVNPMB1 as the investor representative, with a total investment of more than VND 9,220 billion, a total capacity of 480MW (2 units), and an average annual power output of about 488.3 million kWh. After completion and operation, the Project will increase the total capacity of the entire Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant to 2,400MW (the existing Plant has a total capacity of 1,920MW).

According to the Report of the Power Project Management Board 1 (EVNPMB1), with favorable weather for construction, contractors are making efforts to mobilize human resources, equipment, materials, and organize construction in "3 shifts", including the Lunar New Year. As a result, by the first quarter of 2025, the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion Project has basically completed the targets for a number of items. The total volume achieved in the first quarter specifically: concrete construction of the water intake gate reached 157% of the plan; concrete of the plant reached 84.7% of the plan; digging the foundation pit of the discharge channel reached 25%; dismantling the dike of the water intake gate reached 122% of the plan; concrete construction of tunnel No. 1 reached 115.8% and tunnel No. 2 reached 121.4% of the plan;...(Photo: LE CHI)

Construction units are actively constructing steel structure and equipment installation items of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion Project. At the construction site, quality management work is carried out by the supervision consultant according to regulations. Construction units are actively speeding up the progress of the items. Supervision consultants are closely monitoring the quality of the works, labor safety and environment at the site every day, organizing inspections of fire prevention and fighting; at the same time, strengthening propaganda, requiring workers at the site to strictly follow safety procedures and regulations. At the construction site, the embankment area is currently being highly concentrated, mobilizing vehicles and equipment to move soil and rocks from the location. The dismantling of the embankment and construction of the channel leading to the water intake in phase 3 depends entirely on the operation and exploitation to support the regulation of lowering the water level of Hoa Binh Hydropower Reservoir. Every week, the Power Project Management Board 1 (EVNPMB1) and related units hold direct meetings at the construction site of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant Expansion Project to discuss the results achieved, plan and resolve difficulties and obstacles during the construction process so that the project can be implemented on schedule. In the second quarter of 2025, the project will have to complete a number of important progress targets such as: completing all structural concrete pouring to an elevation of 122.5 m of the water intake; completing the dismantling of the water intake embankment; carrying out excavation of the foundation pit in phase 3; reinforcing the canal roof below an elevation of 95 m before June 15, 2025.
