The penultimate stage from An Giang to Dong Thap this morning, April 29, is only 91 km long and is considered a practice run for the racers before the final stage tomorrow. When the overall titles have been decided, each team has its own goal to win the stage. On the day the race returns home, the racers from Dong Thap are determined to bring sprinter Tran Tuan Kiet back to compete in the sprint.
Despite fierce competition from An Giang, Vinh Long, and Ho Chi Minh City teams, the Dong Thap team still formed an arrow formation, with the excellence of foreign player Loic helping Tran Tuan Kiet into a favorable retreat. Thanks to that, this Dong Thap cyclist defeated Nguyen Van Binh (Ho Chi Minh City New Group) to reach the finish line first at 2 hours 10 minutes 33 seconds, reaching an average speed of 41.363 km/h. Binh Minh Plastics Binh Duong cyclist Savva Novikov finished third.
This is Tran Tuan Kiet’s third stage victory at this year’s Television Cup. He believes the presence of foreign riders helps create fierce competition for the race, but at the same time, it also helps domestic riders like him improve their skills.
"Today is the race back to our hometown, so the whole team met to discuss tactics and encourage each other to race fast, finish in a large group and compete for rankings. I am very happy that the whole team followed the tactics, and I myself had a favorable position to win. I would like to win this victory for Dong Thap fans," Tuan Kiet shared after the finish line.
With the group in the group, the titles remained unchanged. Rikunov (An Giang) still held both the Yellow and Green Jerseys. Nguyen Tan Hoai (An Giang) held the Orange Jersey for the best Vietnamese racer, Pham Le Xuan Loc (Military Zone 7) held the White Jersey for the best young racer, Igor Frolov (HCMC New Group) held the Red Dot Jersey - the king of the mountains and HCMC Vinama ranked first in the team, followed by An Giang and Dong Thap respectively.
Tomorrow, April 30, the final leg from Dong Thap to Ho Chi Minh City, 163km long, takes place.
