Mr. Le Hoai Nam, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, reported on the work of primary school enrollment.
According to Mr. Le Hoai Nam, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the 2024-2025 school year's enrollment plan has many changes compared to the 2023-2024 school year to better meet the people's demand for learning places.
Specifically, the admission process is conducted entirely online, using a geographic information system (GIS map) to allocate study places near students' homes.
This year, there are about 6 secondary schools (an increase of 4 schools compared to the previous school year) in District 7, Hoc Mon District and Thu Duc City enrolling 6th grade students based on student capacity assessment. These are schools with high enrollment registration requirements much higher than the enrollment quota in the area. Localities will develop appropriate enrollment plans based on the actual situation. These are the schools:
- Tran Quoc Toan 1 Secondary School, Thu Duc City
- Hoa Lu Secondary School, Thu Duc City
- Binh Tho Secondary School, Thu Duc City
- Nguyen Huu Tho Secondary School, District 7
- Nguyen An Khuong Secondary School, Hoc Mon District
- Tran Dai Nghia Secondary - High School, District 1 (project under construction).
In addition to the 6 schools mentioned above, the remaining secondary schools still recruit students through examination.
The admission process will be divided into 2 phases:
- Phase 1: Priority is given to candidates who are actually residing in the area, have completed primary school and are within the prescribed age.
- Phase 2: Based on the units that have not recruited enough students compared to the assigned quota, the primary enrollment steering committee decides on opening the second enrollment phase, and at the same time stipulates the subjects allowed to register during this phase (registration is still carried out online at the enrollment page prescribed by the Department of Education and Training).
Candidates have a maximum of 6 10th grade wishes.
For 10th grade admission, the 2024-2025 school year will stop enrolling non-specialized 10th graders at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted and Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted. According to Mr. Nam, to increase the chances of admission for students, the total number of admission wishes for specialized 10th graders this year will increase from 2 to 3. Thus, each student will register for a maximum of 6 wishes, including 3 wishes for regular 10th graders and 3 wishes for specialized (or integrated) 10th graders.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has built a portal providing all enrollment information of public high schools, including information on enrollment quotas, benchmark scores for the last 3 years, and elective subject combinations to be implemented in the 2024-2025 school year.
In addition, to limit the situation of students with high test scores but failing all 3 public grade 10 wishes, while many public high schools do not have enough students, this year's grade 10 admissions are organized in 2 phases. In which, phase 2 is for additional admissions for schools that have not yet recruited enough students.
45 students currently studying in grade 9 at Thanh An Secondary and High School (Can Gio district) will not take the entrance exam but will be considered for grade 10 at the same school.
Mr. Cao Thanh Binh, Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, surveyed schools about the current collection activities.
There will be new tuition regulations for the 2024-2025 school year.
Regarding the issuance of a resolution to replace Resolution 04 of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council on regulations on revenue collection, Mr. Cao Thanh Binh, Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, requested relevant departments and branches to focus on reviewing and ensuring a strict legal basis to issue a new resolution that is more suitable to reality. Based on listening to feedback from parents, schools, and the Department of Education and Training, the new resolution will be developed to create favorable conditions for schools to carry out activities, without disrupting the organization and affecting the rights of students.
After reaching consensus with the departments and branches, the new draft resolution will be submitted to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council for consideration and approval at the meeting in July 2024 to begin implementation from the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year.
