Ho Chi Minh City hopes to have a Japanese high-tech park

Ho Chi Minh City leaders shared many cooperation ideas during a meeting with Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister Komura Masahiro within the framework of the Ho Chi Minh City Friendship Dialogue.

At the meeting on September 24, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan said that the Vietnam - Japan relationship is very good, so it is necessary to innovate in cooperation between localities as well as ministries and branches of the two countries accordingly. Mr. Hoan made proposals such as making the Japan - Vietnam Festival, Ho Chi Minh City Day in Japan or Japan Day in Ho Chi Minh City become annual activities. He also proposed that Japan support a new model of ODA capital for Ho Chi Minh City, which includes not only capital but also support in experience, technology, expanding private participation... According to Mr. Hoan, Ho Chi Minh City always appreciates Japan's support in building metro line No. 1, a symbol of Vietnam - Japan friendship and cooperation. The city's goal from now until 2035 is to build an additional 180km of urban railway network.

Mr. Vo Van Hoan expressed that Japan, with its extensive experience in railways as well as in cooperation with Ho Chi Minh City, will continue to cooperate with the city in this field. Mr. Hoan also asked Mr. Komura to help promote the Japanese Government and JICA to prioritize urban development cooperation according to the TOD model (Transit Oriented Development - urban development model associated with public transport) in Ho Chi Minh City, a field in which Japan has experience. Ho Chi Minh City leaders also called on Japan to cooperate in training and developing high-quality human resources, especially in the fields of semiconductors and artificial intelligence. The city also wishes to have a Japanese high-tech industrial park in the area and is ready to support and create conditions for businesses to invest here. In response, Mr. Komura said that Vietnam and Japan have upgraded their bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which is the foundation for promoting cooperation between the two sides. He emphasized that exchanges between localities are very important and the Ho Chi Minh City Friendship Dialogue is of great significance in promoting cooperation. Mr. Komura affirmed that Japan values cooperation with Ho Chi Minh City and considers this a gateway to open cooperation with localities in the southern region. Mr. Komura hopes that Ho Chi Minh City will continue to improve its investment environment and believes that the number of Japanese enterprises coming to invest will increase.
