Ho Chi Minh City plans to enroll 78% of junior high school graduates into public grade 10 schools in the 2025-2026 school year. This is the expected rate after the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training compiled statistics on the grade 10 enrollment targets proposed by public high schools.
Thus, if the above rate is approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the rate of secondary school graduates in Ho Chi Minh City entering public grade 10 this year will increase by 13% compared to last year (last year it was 65%). This is probably good news for grade 9 students this year.
It is known that currently the whole city has only 89,649 9th grade students expected to graduate from junior high school. Meanwhile, last year this number was 115,759 students.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the department will submit the 10th grade enrollment plan to the City People's Committee in March 2025. The department is currently in the process of collecting basic opinions on the 10th grade enrollment plan for the 2025-2026 school year.
In particular, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City plans that students will be able to register for a maximum of 8 wishes when taking the 10th grade entrance exam. Including 3 wishes for regular 10th grade; 2 wishes for specialized 10th grade and 3 wishes for integrated 10th grade.
Admission is carried out in 2 forms:
+ Entrance exam: applies to public high schools in the city, organized according to the instructions of the department.
+ Admission: private schools, vocational training schools; Thanh An Secondary and High School, Can Gio district (only for students who graduated from secondary school at this school in the 2024-2025 school year).
Grade 10 admission in 2 phases
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said it will propose a 2-phase 10th grade admission process:
+ Phase 1: Students register for 3 priority wishes 1, 2, 3 to take the entrance exam to grade 10 of public high schools (except Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted, and High School for the Gifted under Ho Chi Minh City National University).
+ Phase 2: depending on the actual application situation at high schools and the needs of high schools, the department will decide on additional enrollment and issue written instructions to ensure the rights of candidates, on the basis of recruiting enough enrollment quotas for schools that are still lacking many quotas.
