Japanese automaker Toyota Motor announced a temporary halt in production and deliveries of its Grand Highlander and Lexus TX sport utility vehicles due to faulty airbags.
Toyota announced on June 20 that it has temporarily stopped production and delivery of the SUVs until a solution is found. Customers will be notified of the issue in mid-August 2024.
The company is currently working on improvements to its mass-produced models. According to Toyota Motor, these vehicles may not meet US federal safety standards, increasing the risk of injury in some crashes.
Toyota previously announced a recall of 145,000 2024 Grand Highlander and Lexus TX vehicles in the US, because the driver's seat airbag does not deploy properly in some crashes if the driver's side window is rolled down.
Toyota produces both models at its assembly plant in Princeton, Indiana, USA.
To see if your vehicle is included in the safety recall, Toyota recommends that customers visit Toyota.com/recall or nhtsa.gov/recalls and enter their vehicle identification number (VIN).
