US President Joe Biden will visit Vietnam from September 10-11, 2023 at the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
July 25, 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership. In the first six months of 2023, Vietnam and the US have had many contacts and delegation exchanges. On March 29, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong had a phone call with US President Joe Biden.
In April, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken paid a working visit to Vietnam. During the visit, Mr. Blinken paid a courtesy call to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; held talks with Head of the Central External Relations Commission Le Hoai Trung and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son.
On June 25-30, the US aircraft carrier group including the USS Ronald Reagan and two escort cruisers visited Da Nang port.
Notably, the common highlight is that over the past 10 years, the Vietnam - US relationship has developed strongly and deeply in all areas from politics, diplomacy, economics - trade to culture, education, science - technology, health, defense - security, people-to-people exchange... true to the meaning of "Comprehensive Partnership".
Economic and trade relations are the fastest growing and strongest pillar and the driving force behind the relationship in general. Over the past 10 years, two-way trade turnover has increased more than 5 times, from 25 billion USD in 2012 to nearly 139 billion USD in 2022; Vietnam has risen to become the 7th largest trading partner of the US worldwide. US investment in Vietnam has continuously increased and especially investment by Vietnamese enterprises in the US is also becoming a trend.
In the field of people-to-people exchange, there are currently 23,000 to 25,000 Vietnamese students studying in the US each year, before the Covid-19 pandemic, there were years when the number reached more than 31,000. Vietnam is the leading country in Southeast Asia and the 5th in the world with students studying in the US. American tourists remain in the top 5 of international visitors to Vietnam, reaching an average of 800,000/year before the pandemic. Now that the pandemic is over, we are striving to welcome one million American visitors to Vietnam and hope to soon achieve this goal.
Cooperation in overcoming the consequences of war continues to be a high priority and has achieved many concrete results. The two sides have devoted many resources and promoted activities to search for and verify the remains of Vietnamese soldiers who died in the war, clean up dioxin (completed at Da Nang airport and currently underway at Bien Hoa airport), clear remaining bombs and mines, and support people with disabilities and those affected by Agent Orange. Vietnamese agencies have coordinated with the US side to search for, identify and return to the US the remains of 733 missing US soldiers.
It can be said that each area of cooperation between the two countries has its own progress, contributing to the overall achievements of the 10 years of Vietnam - US Comprehensive Partnership...
