The ceremony promotes humanistic values, in line with the ethics of the Vietnamese people, expressing the desire for harmony and coexistence with nature. This ceremony also demonstrates the morality of drinking water and remembering its source, admiring the merits of ancestors.
Historically, from the Dinh, Ly, Tran, Le to Nguyen dynasties, Xa Tac altars were set up and Xa Tac worship ceremonies were held twice a year in spring and autumn. During the Nguyen dynasty, Xa Tac worship ceremonies were one of the royal court rituals ranked as Great ceremonies.
In 2008, the Xa Tac worship ceremony was restored and maintained annually. The ceremony is solemnly performed with all the traditional rituals including: Quan Tay (washing hands and body); Le Thuong Huong (offering incense); Le Nghinh Than (welcoming the gods); Le Hien Tuoc (offering wine); Le Truyen Chuc (reading the congratulatory document); Le Tong Than (sending the gods off) and Le Tu Chuc Bach Soan (burning congratulatory documents, jade, silk, and tablets).
After the rituals, people come to burn incense at the Xa Tac altar to pray for national peace and prosperity, favorable weather, a happy and prosperous life...

The Xa Tac Altar was built in 1806 under the reign of King Gia Long and is one of the most important royal relics of the ancient capital of Hue. Under the Nguyen Dynasty, the Xa Tac Altar was placed in the same row as the Nam Giao Altar and the Five Temples in the Imperial City, one of the important “Temples” of the royal court and the royal family.
