Indonesian Foreign Minister said that at the bilateral talks, President Joko Widodo and Chinese President Xi Jinping focused on discussing enhancing economic cooperation in a mutually beneficial manner.
On July 27, within the framework of President Joko Widodo's visit to Chengdu (China) at the invitation of President Xi Jinping to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Indonesia-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the two countries signed eight cooperation agreements in many fields.

These agreements include a Plan of Action (PoA) to implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the health sector; two protocols on market access for porang powder and tabasheer powder; five MoUs on research and development of crop varieties and aquaculture, exchange of knowledge and experience in developing the new capital, cooperation in developing joint industrial parks, economic and technical cooperation, and cooperation in teaching Chinese.
In a press release, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said the bilateral talks between the two leaders focused on discussing strengthening economic cooperation in a mutually beneficial manner, always prioritizing the use of local labor, and being environmentally friendly.
In the field of trade, the two sides acknowledged efforts to increase Indonesia's export capacity to China.
This Northeast Asian country is currently Indonesia's largest trading partner with two-way trade turnover reaching more than 133 billion USD last year.
In recent years, the trade balance between Indonesia and China has become increasingly balanced, and this year Indonesia is even likely to start achieving a surplus.
During the talks, President Joko Widodo asked China to open its doors more to Indonesian goods.
The President of Indonesia welcomed the signing of the protocol on the import and export of agricultural products porang and tabasheer, and encouraged the extension of the protocol and the increase of the import quota of bird's nest, as well as the completion of the protocol on the import of seafood from Indonesia.
During the bilateral talks, President Joko Widodo and President Xi Jinping also encouraged increased cooperation in vaccines, gene technology and biotechnology to respond to future pandemics, including the establishment of a National Gene Bank and a Biotechnology Center in Indonesia.
The two sides noted the growing interest of Chinese investors in Indonesia. In 2022, China was the second largest investor in Indonesia with $8.2 billion.
The two sides believe that there is still great potential for increased investment, especially in areas such as green energy, fiberglass, healthcare and petrochemicals. Indonesia invited China to invest in developing the new capital Nusantara.
The two sides also discussed regional and global issues of mutual concern. President Joko Widodo stressed that all countries, including China, need to maintain peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific, and said that competition between major powers needs to be managed to avoid conflicts that are detrimental to the region.
The leader also welcomed the resumption of communication between China and the US, as well as the completion of the Guidelines for Promoting Negotiations on the Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).
President Joko Widodo asked China to support the successful organization of the East Asia Summit and support the implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP), including the participation of Chinese state-owned enterprises and the private sector, at the ASEAN Forum on the Indo-Pacific to be held in September in Jakarta.
In addition, President Joko Widodo also called on China to cooperate in fighting for the interests of developing countries in the fields of sustainable tropical forestry and climate action, and invited the country to participate in the 10th World Water Forum taking place in Bali from May 18-24, 2024.
