President Emmanuel Macron: France has a roadmap to ratify the Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement

On December 2, within the framework of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his appreciation for the effective development of the Vietnam-France Strategic Partnership, in the context of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1973-2023) and the 10th anniversary of the Strategic Partnership (2013-2023), and respectfully conveyed the warm regards of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Vo Van Thuong and the invitation of the French President to visit Vietnam.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the two countries continue to strengthen cooperation and implement the contents agreed upon in the phone call between General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Macron on October 20, 2023, especially promoting the exchange of high-level delegations and all levels, boosting cooperation in economics, security-defense, trade, investment, science and technology, education and training, innovation, digital transformation, green transformation, culture and people-to-people exchange.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that there is a harmonious connection between the two countries in terms of culture, architecture, and painting. Vietnam hopes that France will actively support Vietnam in restoring and preserving historical relics. On this occasion, the Prime Minister asked France to promote the ratification process of the Vietnam - EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).

President Macron reiterated his good impressions of the country and people of Vietnam, highly appreciated the prospects of bilateral relations, and fully agreed that the two sides need to coordinate more effectively and comprehensively in all potential areas.

The President said he would send a number of ministers to visit Vietnam to discuss and coordinate with Vietnamese partners to review and promote specific cooperation activities, especially in economics, trade and investment; and affirmed that France has a roadmap for ratifying the EVIPA. These will be good and thorough preparations for the President's visit in the coming time.

President Macron assessed that cultural cooperation and people-to-people exchange between the two countries are bright spots in bilateral relations and that France is very interested in plans to preserve cultural and historical relics in Vietnam.

President Macron welcomed and appreciated Vietnam's outstanding contributions and efforts in implementing the Political Declaration on the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) and affirmed that the French Government will accompany and support Vietnam in this process.

On this occasion, the two sides agreed to continue close cooperation at multilateral forums and exchange positions on international issues of mutual concern.
