On September 20, Director General of the Foreign Affairs Department of the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General Edwin Adrian Sumantha, said that Indonesian President-elect and Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto visited the Philippines to strengthen the strategic partnership and promote defense cooperation.
According to a press release issued, President-elect Prabowo praised the leadership of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in promoting the Philippines' role in the Southeast Asian region.
Mr. Prabowo emphasized the Philippines' strategic orientation in enhancing its position in the international arena and real progress in the political, economic and military fields.
“I am very impressed with the leadership of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The President’s strategic insights have significantly boosted the Philippines’ standing in the international arena, while showing real progress politically, economically and militarily,” said President-elect Prabowo.
The Philippines successfully hosted the 13th Joint Defense and Security Cooperation Committee (JDSCC) in Manila last July.
Meanwhile, President Marcos affirmed the strong friendship between the Philippines and Indonesia, expressing his hope that the two countries will cooperate more strongly in the future.
President-elect Prabowo previously visited Brunei, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand.
