According to data from the Ministry of Public Security, the country is currently using 2,906 traffic monitoring devices to detect and handle violations. Notably, of these, 1,276 cameras were invested from 2020 to present, belonging to 79 new monitoring systems. The remaining cameras (1,630 units) belong to 67 systems that were deployed before 2019.

These surveillance devices mainly use two main technologies: IP cameras (2,729 units) and Analog cameras (127 units). In addition, there are 50 cameras using other technologies. In terms of origin, the camera system is imported from many countries, including China, Korea and Vietnam, meeting the requirements of efficiency and durability.

The Ministry of Public Security also said that traffic control and monitoring centers are currently using about 17 different types of management software, from famous manufacturers such as ACC7, Cadpro, STM01, CMS, Mystic and SmartLock. Most of these centers are capable of connecting and sharing information with other systems, but only a few have fully connected.

In addition to developing and investing in monitoring equipment and software, the Ministry of Public Security is seeking comments on the draft National Standard (TCVN) on the System for command, control, monitoring and handling of violations of traffic order and safety. This draft is expected to create a common standard for localities across the country to apply uniformly.

Previously, the Ministry of Public Security issued the TCCS-AN 69:2020 standard on the system of monitoring and handling violations of road traffic order and safety applied in the industry. However, through assessment, the Ministry found it necessary to upgrade from industry standards to National Standards to ensure efficiency and consistency in traffic management and supervision.

Currently, Vietnam has many sets of national standards related to telecommunications and information technology such as TCVN 8071:2009 (Code of practice for lightning protection and grounding), TCVN 9250:2012 (Requirements for telecommunications infrastructure for data centers) or TCVN ISO 39001:2014 (Road traffic safety management system). However, there is no unified common standard for traffic surveillance camera systems and violation handling.

The Ministry of Public Security believes that developing national standards for the Traffic Order Command, Monitoring and Handling System is necessary to ensure connectivity, synchronization and efficiency in detecting and handling traffic violations.
