(NLDO) - Overseas intellectuals have made many practical suggestions for Vietnam to make the most of technological potential for the country's breakthrough development.
According to a special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, within the framework of an official visit to the Republic of Singapore from March 11 to 13, on the afternoon of March 11, General Secretary To Lam and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation met with a number of overseas intellectuals in Singapore to discuss and listen to recommendations and proposals for development policies.

At the meeting, with extensive expertise and experience in a working environment in a country that is a leading center of science, technology, and economy in the region and the world and a model that Vietnam can learn from, overseas intellectuals made many practical and effective suggestions for Vietnam to maximize the potential of technology in key areas, playing a core role for the country's breakthrough development such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, investment, etc.
Overseas intellectuals also proposed a number of policies to promote the application of science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation in the State's national governance and the design, construction, and production of technology products by enterprises.
Speaking at the meeting, General Secretary To Lam highly appreciated the enthusiastic contributions of overseas Vietnamese experts and intellectuals, saying that these proposals help Vietnam access advanced scientific achievements, improve competitiveness, and develop a sustainable economy.
General Secretary To Lam shared that one of the main activities during this visit, besides strengthening the effective and practical cooperation between Vietnam and Singapore, is to meet with intellectuals, representatives of prestigious experts, researchers, scientists, scholars, outstanding children of the country and the Vietnamese community in Singapore, to exchange, discuss and contribute ideas for the future development direction of Vietnam.

Expressing his gratitude for the dedicated and responsible contributions of overseas intellectuals to the country's development in recent times, the General Secretary said that at a time when the country is entering a new era, the Party, State and people need to join hands to help Vietnam achieve its development goals by 2045, becoming a developed country with high income, where people have a prosperous and happy life.
The Party and the State attach great importance to the role of science, technology, innovation and intellectuals. Recently, the Politburo issued Resolution No. 57 on the development of science, technology and innovation until 2030, with a vision to 2045. The Resolution clearly affirms the importance of breakthroughs in the field of science and technology, considering this a key task and a decisive factor to enhance the competitiveness of the economy, improve the quality of life of the people and ensure national security and sovereignty.
Agreeing with the practical and effective suggestions that overseas intellectuals have just shared, General Secretary To Lam suggested continuing research on the major focus of serving the development of science, technology, and innovation; perfecting institutions and policies, removing bottlenecks and barriers to shift the state from institutions for management to institutions for competition in the development of science, technology, innovation and digital transformation, especially in the fields of investment, intellectual property, scientific research, etc.
General Secretary To Lam emphasized that in order to achieve the goal of Vietnam mastering digital technology and the digital transformation process through specific measures, state agencies will continue to promote the application of science, technology, and innovation to improve the effectiveness of national governance; at the same time, continue to encourage domestic enterprises to design, innovate, construct, and produce digital technology products with high added value.
The General Secretary asked overseas intellectuals to actively cooperate and provide information back to the country, contributing to building the Vietnam Innovation Network, helping Vietnam access advanced technologies and effective development models from Singapore and other developed countries.
At the meeting, General Secretary To Lam requested relevant ministries and branches to study and consider the above contributions to make breakthroughs in science and technology development to serve socio-economic development.
