Khanh Hoa, a land with a history of more than 370 years

The website of Nha Trang University cites documents in our country's historical books showing that in the spring of Quy Ty year 1653, in the process of expanding the border of Dai Viet Fatherland (now Vietnam), under the order of Lord Nguyen Phuc Tan, the chief Hung Loc Hau took the land from the North bank of Phan Rang River (now Ninh Thuan province) to Da Bia - Deo Ca mountain (the border between the two provinces of Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa today) to establish Thai Khang palace.

Administratively, Thai Khang Palace was divided into two prefectures: Thai Khang prefecture (Van Ninh district and Ninh Hoa town today) and Dien Ninh prefecture (Nha Trang city, Cam Ranh city and Dien Khanh, Cam Lam, Khanh Vinh, Khanh Son districts and a part of the north of Ninh Thuan province today).

Thus, by establishing Thai Khang palace and dividing administrative units, Lord Nguyen integrated the land of Khanh Hoa today into Dai Viet territory.

In the 7th year of Gia Long (1808), the Nguyen Dynasty carried out the first administrative reform on a national scale. The dinh were changed to towns. In 1831, Binh Hoa prefecture was renamed Ninh Hoa prefecture. In October 1832, King Minh Mang carried out the second administrative reform, the towns were called provinces and 31 provinces were established nationwide. Therefore, Binh Hoa town was changed to Khanh Hoa province.

In 1888, King Dong Khanh merged the land of An Phuoc district, Ninh Thuan prefecture of Binh Thuan province and 7 communes of Tuy Phong district, 2 cantons of Hoa Da district into Vinh Xuong district. The boundary of Khanh Hoa province was expanded.

In 1901, when Ninh Thuan prefecture was established as Ninh Thuan province, the above-mentioned land divisions were returned to Ninh Thuan.

Ninh Thuan - land of sun and wind

According to the Ninh Thuan Statistical Office, Ninh Thuan was born and became an administrative unit that changed its boundaries many times. At the end of the 17th century, Ninh Thuan prefecture belonged to Thuan Thanh town, then changed to Binh Thuan citadel. In 1832, the Nguyen feudal regime changed Binh Thuan citadel into a province of Ham Thuan and Ninh Thuan prefectures. At that time, Ninh Thuan had 2 districts, Yen Phuoc and Tuy Phong, bordering Vinh Xuong district (Khanh Hoa) to the north and Hoa Da district (Ham Thuan prefecture) to the south.
