Thanks to the good implementation of ethnic policies, combined with the synchronous implementation of socio-economic development programs, in recent years, the lives of ethnic minorities in Tan Son district have been improved.

Tan Son is a mountainous district with 17 communes, 172 villages, and ethnic minorities account for 82.5%. In recent times, with the attention of the district and the efforts of the people of all ethnic groups in the district, the economy has continued to maintain and grow steadily, with average income per capita reaching 36.16 million VND/person/year (2023); the poverty rate has decreased by 1.7%/year, and average income per capita has gradually increased.

The lives of ethnic minorities and mountainous areas have improved, creating an important premise for ethnic minorities to have the opportunity to continue developing at a higher level, narrowing the gap in access to social conditions between lowland and mountainous areas.

Lai Dong flood overpass, Lai Dong commune put into use contributes to economic development, improving the lives of ethnic minorities

In supporting the development of agricultural and forestry production in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, from 2021 to present, Tan Son district has directed specialized agencies to support many new agricultural production development models, with high-value crop and livestock varieties, technical support, and agricultural materials for people such as: Focusing on supporting, building and developing 2 key product chains "Linking chain of production and consumption of green tea products" with a scale of 30 hectares in Long Coc and Van Luong communes; "Linking chain of production and consumption of wood products according to FSC standards" with a scale of 800 hectares...

In addition to providing financial support for the implementation of the model, agencies and units also organize training courses and provide guidance on production techniques to help people improve their skills, access scientific knowledge, and apply it to production, contributing to the development of family economy, stabilizing life and contributing to the overall development of the locality.

The policy of developing physical education and sports in ethnic minority areas has continued to receive attention in recent years. Health care programs for the people, reproductive health, vaccination, etc. have all been implemented promptly and effectively. Implementing Decree No. 39/2015/ND-CP dated April 27, 2015 of the Government on supporting poor ethnic minority women to give birth in accordance with population policy, from 2020 to 2023, payments have been made to 121 people with a total of 242 million VND. The VAC model of Ms. Ha Thi Thuy in Que area, Thu Cuc commune brings in an income of nearly 300 million VND/year.

In addition, to further improve the lives of ethnic minorities in the area, in recent times, the district has focused resources on planning and investing in developing socio-economic infrastructure in ethnic minority and particularly disadvantaged areas. 100% of ethnic minority villages have had roads upgraded, renovated and newly built.

Traffic routes to commune and village centers have been hardened, facilitating travel. Focus on solutions to urge and speed up the progress of key projects and works in the area such as: Tan Phu - Xuan Dai Road; connecting traffic routes, developing tourism in Long Coc tea hill - Xuan Son National Park (section from Long Coc to Xuan Dai); overpasses in Kiet Son, Lai Dong, Dong Son, Xuan Dai...

Thanks to the synchronous implementation of economic development support policies, the lives of ethnic minorities in the district have been improved. However, besides the achieved results, there are still many difficulties such as: Although the infrastructure system has been improved, it still does not meet the requirements of socio-economic development. The poverty rate in ethnic minority areas has decreased but is still high. Agricultural production has not become a large commodity, income in production has not been promoted and commensurate with the potential and strengths of each region...

In order to effectively implement ethnic policies and continue to improve the lives of ethnic minorities, in the coming time, the district will fundamentally solve urgent problems, create livelihoods, improve income and life of the people. Comrade Tran Khac Thang - Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee said: The goal from now until 2029 is to strive to reduce the number of poor households by over 2% each year. At the same time, focus on completely solving difficulties in housing, production land, and domestic water; planning and arranging stable settlements in ethnic minority and mountainous areas. Upgrade and expand 100% of roads to the centers of communes, villages, and hamlets with advantages for tourism development. Focus on attracting investment capital and supporting the construction of transport infrastructure in extremely disadvantaged communes and ethnic minority areas.

The implementation of ethnic policies combined with investment resources has been effectively serving the lives of people in ethnic minority areas, contributing to promoting sustainable socio-economic development in especially disadvantaged communes and villages of Tan Son district.
