On April 12, Lam Dong Police announced that the Investigation Police Agency of Lam Dong Province Police had issued a decision to temporarily detain three subjects, including: Bui Van Huan (38 years old), Nguyen Van Tuyen (38 years old; both temporarily residing in Da Sar Commune, Lac Duong District) and Bui Van Nam (36 years old, temporarily residing in Ward 9, Da Lat City) for illegal logging.
Previously, on April 10, through the work of grasping the situation of the area to fight against all kinds of crimes, ensuring security and order, the Economic Police Department - Lam Dong Provincial Police coordinated with Da Sar Commune Police, Forest Protection Department, Lac Duong District Forest Protection Department to discover a car with license plate 49C-233.71 driven by Bui Van Nam on National Highway 27C in the direction from Da Nhim Commune to Da Lat City carrying 64 pine logs with a total volume of 3.49m3.
During the investigation, Nam confessed that he, along with Huan and Tuyen, entered Sub-area 122, Da Chais Commune (Lac Duong District) to use a chainsaw to cut dead pine trees with dry leaves and fallen trees, then transported them to a wood processing workshop in Da Phu (Ward 7, Da Lat City) for the purpose of sawing boards or making firewood. Immediately after discovering the incident, the Investigation Agency of Lam Dong Provincial Police coordinated with the People's Procuracy, the Forest Protection Department and local authorities to conduct an investigation of the scene of the illegal logging that occurred in Sub-area 122, Da Chais Commune, Lac Duong District.
At the scene, there were many three-leaf pine trees (group IV) that had been cut down by the subjects and were scattered; the subjects had cut them into many sections (from 1m to 3m long) for ease of transportation; at the time of the scene examination, some sections and logs had been taken away from the scene. This is a protected forest area under the forest area managed by the Da Nhim Forest Management Board, all the illegally cut trees belonged to natural forests. Initial records show that the total number of illegally cut tree stumps at the scene was 31. The volume of illegally exploited forest products remaining at the scene was 74 sections and logs with a volume of 11.595m3. During the examination, the inspection team determined that there were 23 tree stumps with part or all of the forest products taken away from the scene, of which the volume of forest products taken away was calculated to be 3.329m3.
Currently, the Investigation Police Agency of Lam Dong Provincial Police is continuing to expand the investigation to strictly handle according to the provisions of law.
