Information that the Vietnamese team will pay for their own travel, hotel and food expenses during the training tour was published by Korean news sites last night (October 11) and this morning. The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) said this information is incorrect.
After the match with Uzbekistan in China, the Vietnamese team will travel to South Korea for training. Coach Philippe Troussier and his team will play a friendly match with the Korean team on October 17. The Vietnam Football Federation only has to pay for the travel expenses, the rest is fully supported by the Korean Football Association (KFA).
Vietnam team will play a friendly match with Korea on October 17.
The match between Vietnam and South Korea is an official friendly match (level A) in the October international match series according to the FIFA schedule. This is a rare occasion for the Vietnam team to compete with a team in the top 5 of Asia outside of an official tournament or the Asian Cup or World Cup qualifiers.
The Korean media has recently asked the KFA many questions about why they chose the Vietnamese team as the opponent for the Korean team. The rankings between the two teams on the FIFA rankings are quite different, so Korean fans are concerned about the technical effectiveness of this friendly match.
News 1 and several other Korean media outlets quoted a KFA official as saying that the match was organized at the request of the VFF. Accordingly, the Korean Football Association did not have to pay to invite the Vietnamese team to compete. On the other hand, the KFA determined that it was necessary to arrange for the home team to compete with an Asian opponent to prepare for the Asian Cup. This official also said that the Vietnamese team had to pay for their own airfare and hotel during the training trip.
However, in reality, VFF only takes care of airfare, the Korean Football Association supports all other expenses related to accommodation and training of the Vietnamese team during the training period in the host country.
VFF and KFA have had a cooperative relationship in recent years. The Vietnamese team has been supported to train many times in Korea, even eating and training at the Paju Sports Center - a place that often serves the training sessions of the Korean national team.
