(TN&MT) - The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MARD) and the Ministry of Environment of Korea are promoting the progress of the project to establish a resource recycling industrial park.
This is the information at the meeting between Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Le Cong Thanh and Mr. Kim Young Ki - Acting Director of the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute (KEITI), on the morning of March 5.
Welcoming Mr. Kim Young Ki - the first international guest to visit the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Deputy Minister Le Cong Thanh highly appreciated the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Korea which has been upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership. Many economic investment activities have been and are being implemented by the two countries. In 2025, Vietnam set an economic development target with an expected GDP growth of 8%, creating the premise for the following years to have double-digit GDP growth. With such a strong growth orientation, environmental protection in Vietnam also needs to be more focused.
The Deputy Minister sincerely thanked the Korean Government and KEITI for supporting the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment in developing and implementing environmental protection policies and projects, typically the Extended Producer and Importer Responsibility (EPR) regulations. To implement EPR, circular economy, and promote recycling activities, Vietnam needs to learn from the experiences of countries like Korea.
Discussing this content, Mr. Kim Young Ki said that Korea has applied EPR for a long time, so it is ready to share with Vietnam to shape a circular economy in waste management. Realizing the relationship between the Korean Ministry of Environment and the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the leaders of the two ministries signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation on the establishment of a resource recycling industrial park. "To quickly implement this project, Korea has sent EPR experts to coordinate with provinces and cities to conduct surveys before the two ministries carry out specific activities," said Mr. Kim Young Ki.
Recognizing the practical significance of this project, Deputy Minister Le Cong Thanh emphasized that the leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will direct units to closely coordinate with the Korean Ministry of Environment and KEIKI to effectively implement the project.
On this occasion, the Deputy Minister also thanked the Korean Government and KEITI for supporting the Ministry in the fields of climate change response, water resource protection, biodiversity conservation, and environmental protection. The projects being implemented by both sides include the “Project to establish a real-time monitoring system for chimney emissions and institutional support for air pollutant emission management in Vietnam”; “Regional project to build an Asian Partnership on an Air Quality Information System using geospatial technology”.
With the establishment of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Deputy Minister Le Cong Thanh believes that the space for cooperation between the two sides will be increasingly open. The Deputy Minister shared about his recent attendance at a meeting between the Prime Minister and leaders of 35 typical Korean enterprises investing and doing business in Vietnam. At this meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed: "No obstacle can hinder Vietnam - Korea cooperation". "Therefore, I hope that the cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment with KEITI in particular and the Korean Ministry of Environment in general in the coming time will be similar to the spirit stated by the Vietnamese Prime Minister", the Deputy Minister expressed./.
