According to the Radio Frequency Department, the Workshop “New generation license-free technology serving digital economic development” is an important forum aimed at promoting the development and application of broadband radio technologies in Vietnam and ASEAN.
Within the framework of Vietnam International Digital Week 2024 taking place in Ha Long City, on November 20, the Ministry of Information and Communications coordinated with the US Embassy in Vietnam and the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province to organize the Workshop "New generation of license-free technology serving digital economic development" .
At the workshop, leading domestic and foreign experts, managers and businesses focused on discussing key issues including: Trends in the use of the 6GHz band in the world; challenges and opportunities in ASEAN to propose solutions suitable to the practical conditions of each country; building a legal framework and management policies; international cooperation through promoting cooperation in ASEAN and globally, in order to build harmonious and sustainable solutions for the 6GHz band.
Emphasizing the importance of the event, Mr. Le Thai Hoa, Deputy Director in charge of the Department of Radio Frequency (Ministry of Information and Communications), said that this is a forum for delegates to exchange expertise and promote the development and application of broadband radio technologies in Vietnam as well as the ASEAN region.
“The presence of leading technology companies and regulators shows great interest in license-free technologies, an essential foundation contributing to promoting the sustainable development of the digital economy,” said Mr. Le Thai Hoa.
Technologies using license-free spectrum are growing rapidly, not only because of their flexibility and cost-effectiveness, but also because of their important role in promoting innovation and digital economic development.
The technology using license-free spectrum has also expanded its application space from personal devices, smart homes, Internet of Things - IoT to production automation.
This enables billions of devices to communicate efficiently, thanks to advanced spectrum sharing mechanisms and the ability to operate stably in noisy environments.
However, the representative of the Radio Frequency Department also pointed out that along with the great benefits come significant challenges in managing and ensuring the effective use of license-free frequency bands.
This requires close coordination among stakeholders, in which the development of legal frameworks, the application of advanced technology, and the harmonization of international policies are key tasks to fully exploit the potential of these bands.
Referring to the 6GHz band, Deputy Director in charge of the Radio Frequency Department Le Thai Hoa said that this is a band with wide, continuous bandwidth, bringing great advantages to broadband radio technologies, with the ability to balance capacity, speed and transmission distance.
For this reason, the 6GHz band is considered the key band for new generation wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 7 and 5G/6G to meet the increasing demands of technology platforms and digital services.
The representative of the Radio Frequency Department affirmed: As an active member of ITU, APT and ASEAN, Vietnam is proactively implementing policies and solutions to promote the development of digital technology.
Vietnam's digital infrastructure strategy to 2025 and vision to 2030 has identified new-generation Wi-Fi as an indispensable component of telecommunications and Internet infrastructure.
New generation Wi-Fi plays an important intermediary role between fixed broadband networks and terminal devices to popularize high-speed, low-latency connections to households, agencies, businesses, and organizations.
For the 6GHz band, we plan to allocate 500MHz of this band for license-free equipment to develop Wi-Fi 6E/7 technologies, while the rest will be considered for 5G/6G mobile information systems. This is also the approach that many countries and regions around the world have recently applied to the 6GHz band," added a representative of the Radio Frequency Department.
Taking place from November 19 to November 22, Vietnam International Digital Week 2024 includes 12 official events and side events, with the participation of more than 600 delegates who are leaders of state management agencies from nearly 30 countries, representatives of international organizations and leading technology enterprises. In addition to the "Virtual Assistant" themed activities, the Ministry of Information and Communications also coordinates to organize professional forums with many different topics. |
