At the meeting, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh congratulated the Ambassador on his assignment in Vietnam and believed that with his extensive experience in diplomacy, the Ambassador would have a successful term in Vietnam. At the same time, he affirmed that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment would coordinate and create the best possible conditions for the Ambassador to fulfill his duties and promote the cooperation in the field of natural resources and environment between the two countries to achieve more and more common achievements.
In an exchange with Minister Dang Quoc Khanh, Ambassador Marco Della Seta highly appreciated the position and role of Vietnam, especially the commitments and actions of the Government, the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in efforts to protect the environment, adapt to climate change, and convert energy... and affirmed that the Italian Government will always accompany Vietnam in implementing climate commitments, including providing 250 million euros to Vietnam from the Climate Change Prevention and Control Fund within the framework of JETP.
The Ambassador also said that many Italian agencies and enterprises wish to continue to expand cooperation and investment with Vietnam in the fields of environment, energy conversion, remote sensing, hydrometeorology, afforestation, biodiversity conservation, etc. Ambassador Marco Della Seta said that Italian Government agencies are looking forward to signing MOUs to concretize the above cooperation programs.
Speaking with Ambassador Marco Della Seta, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh acknowledged that over the years, the Italian Government and agencies have provided the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment with much support in many areas, including hydrometeorology, water resources, remote sensing and climate change. On this occasion, through the Ambassador, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh sincerely thanked the Italian Government for such valuable support and cooperation.
Sharing the same view with the Ambassador's proposals, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh said that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment manages up to 9 fields, many of which can cooperate sustainably with Italy, such as the fields of sea and island management, climate change, environment, water resources, remote sensing, hydrometeorology, so the Ambassador's role as a bridge is needed to continue to promote cooperation activities in traditional fields as well as proposed new fields, and hopes to bring the cooperation relationship in the field of natural resources and environment between Vietnam and Italy to become more comprehensive and deeper.
Regarding specific work groups, the Minister hopes that the Ambassador and the Italian Government will mobilize and promote international partners to support Vietnam in mobilizing resources to implement JETP; provide stable financial resources, clear about total capital and roadmap for provision to Vietnam as well as support expertise and technology, improve capacity, including management capacity for Vietnam to implement commitments as well as global initiatives on emission reduction, climate change adaptation, especially the commitment to bring net emissions to "0" by 2050...
Vietnam also needs to support experiences and solutions related to circular economy, plastic waste reduction and environmental protection; cooperate to enhance capacity, transfer technology and support the implementation of the Hydrometeorology Modernization Strategy through non-refundable ODA projects.
The Minister also asked the Ambassador to promote cooperation between the Ministry and Italian partner agencies to access and use remote sensing satellite image data from Italy and Europe (ESA) to monitor resources, environment and climate change; coordinate research on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) to extract geographic information from remote sensing image data...
In addition, promote cooperation, sharing and exchange of experiences in the field of water resources, mainly in building and operating the national water resources database system; restoring degraded, polluted and exhausted water sources...
In addition to supporting resources and technology, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh also hopes that Italy will coordinate with research agencies of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment such as Institutes and schools so that Vietnamese scientists have the opportunity to access scientific achievements from Italy in particular and Europe in general, so that they can apply and research to produce Vietnamese scientific products suitable to practical conditions...
Through the working session, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh and Ambassador Marco Della Seta hope to have more effective cooperation activities, contributing to further deepening the relationship between Vietnam and Italy, especially in the field of natural resources and environment.
