Organizations and businesses from the UK and Ho Chi Minh City shared and contributed ideas on investment and trade promotion as well as their wishes to promote cooperation and trade with businesses from the two localities towards sustainable investment and business.
On October 24 (local time), in London (UK), the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City held the Conference "Promoting Investment - Trade Cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and the UK in 2023".
Attending the conference were Mr. Vo Van Hoan, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee; Mr. Nguyen Hoang Long, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; Mr. Mark Garnier, Special Trade Envoy of the British Prime Minister to Ho Chi Minh City and more than 80 businesses from Ho Chi Minh City and the United Kingdom.

At the conference, organizations and businesses from the UK and Ho Chi Minh City shared and contributed ideas on investment and trade promotion as well as expressed their desire to promote cooperation and trade with businesses from the two localities in the direction of sustainable investment and business.
Regarding the city's investment environment, Mr. Tran Phu Lu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Investment and Trade Promotion Center (ITPC), gave an overview of the city's investment environment and incentive policies and some highlights of Resolution 98/2023/QH15 of the National Assembly on a number of specific mechanisms and policies for the development of Ho Chi Minh City.
According to Mr. Tran Phu Lu, this will be the legal basis to promote potentials and advantages, creating breakthroughs to solve socio-economic bottlenecks of Ho Chi Minh City. Especially in the field of investment such as piloting urban models according to the orientation of public transport development (TOD), applying BOT contracts to projects to expand existing road works, expanding the field of investment application under the public-private partnership (PPP) method in the fields of health, culture and sports and attracting strategic investors to a number of key project areas of the city.
The Director of ITPC affirmed that Ho Chi Minh City has outstanding advantages compared to other localities due to its favorable geographical location connecting the region and the world; developed infrastructure system; abundant high-quality human resources; dynamic economic development and the largest consumer market in Vietnam. Along with that, Ho Chi Minh City has a diverse culture, good quality of life and constantly reforms administrative procedures, creates an open investment environment and actively supports investors in removing difficulties and obstacles.

The British Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Ho Chi Minh City, Mark Garnier, said that Ho Chi Minh City's economic potential in various fields, especially high-tech fields, has made strong progress and development in recent times. At the same time, he emphasized that he is ready to support Ho Chi Minh City to achieve common development goals and we expect that areas such as health, education, and finance will have certain growth achievements.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan emphasized that the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and the UK has been developing well over the past 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the UK. This is a premise for the development of bilateral trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and the UK.
Ho Chi Minh City hopes to take advantage of the opportunities of the Vietnam-UK Free Trade Agreement (UKVNFTA) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) of which the two countries are members to promote economic cooperation in areas that Ho Chi Minh City and the UK prioritize for development such as finance, education, information technology, logistics, trade, services, etc.

The Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee affirmed that Ho Chi Minh City is prioritizing the promotion of digital transformation and green transformation towards the goal of sustainable development, focusing on developing high technology, supporting industries, electronic microchip technology, semiconductors; banking and finance; information technology; logistics... Ho Chi Minh City will always accompany, support and create all favorable conditions for UK investors to invest and do business in the city.
On this occasion, the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City witnessed the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between organizations and enterprises of Vietnam and the United Kingdom in the fields of trade promotion, information technology, education, food and beverage... In addition, there was an exhibition of Vietnamese products, after the Conference were connections between B&B enterprises to exchange business cooperation opportunities...
