After successfully concluding his official visit to the Republic of Poland, on the afternoon of January 18 local time (the same evening as Hanoi time), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his wife Le Thi Bich Tran and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation arrived at Václav Havel Airport, Prague, to begin an official visit to the Czech Republic from January 18-20, at the invitation of Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala.
Welcoming Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his wife and the Vietnamese delegation at the airport on the Czech side were Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Jiri Kozak, Czech Ambassador to Vietnam Hynek Kmonicek; on the Vietnamese side were Vietnamese Ambassador to the Czech Republic Duong Hoai Nam, officials and staff of the Embassy and representatives of Vietnamese compatriots in the Czech Republic.
During the visit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is expected to hold talks and meetings with Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala and Czech leaders; and receive leaders of the Czech Communist Party and the Czech Friendship Organization.
The Prime Minister will also visit and meet with officials and staff of the Embassy, representatives of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic; attend the Spring Homeland 2025 program and wish the Vietnamese community a happy New Year; work with typical Vietnamese businesses in the Czech Republic and Europe; receive leaders of leading Czech businesses and attend the Vietnam - Czech Business Forum...
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to the Czech Republic takes place in the context of the traditional friendship between Vietnam and the Czech Republic having developed well over the past 7 decades. Vietnam always attaches importance to developing relations with traditional friends in the Central and Eastern European region, of which the Czech Republic is one of the priority partners; the Czech Republic also always pays attention to implementing the policy of developing cooperative relations with Vietnam in all fields.
The two sides regularly exchange delegations and hold high-level and all-level contacts; the two sides have signed many cooperation documents and regularly maintain cooperation mechanisms; and always support each other in international forums.
The Czech Republic is Vietnam's leading trading partner in Central and Eastern Europe, while Vietnam is the Czech Republic's most important partner in ASEAN. Trade turnover between the two countries has recently grown strongly, reaching 2.046 billion USD in 2024, an increase of more than 80% compared to 2023. The Czech Republic has 41 investment projects with a total investment capital of 91 million USD, ranking 50th out of 147 countries and territories investing directly in Vietnam.
The two countries also actively cooperate in the fields of defense, security, science, technology, culture, sports, etc. The Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic currently has about 100,000 people, well integrated with the host country, actively contributing to strengthening the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries; recognized as an ethnic minority in the Czech Republic.
With the foundation of the valuable relationship over the past 75 years, this official visit to the Czech Republic by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is of great significance; aiming to continue affirming Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, diversification, proactiveness, activeness, comprehensive, deep and effective international integration; contributing to deepening and raising Vietnam-Czech relations to a new level of development./.
