2024 is considered a busy year for goalkeeper Nguyen Filip as he continuously competes in the V-League, National Cup and the first-ever Southeast Asian Club Championship. This makes the time for the 1992-born goalkeeper and his family to prepare for the Lunar New Year of At Ty very luxurious.
However, he and his family are eagerly waiting for this day because this year's Tet is the most special as the family has a new member, little princess Mia.
Nguyen Filip is happy with his family on Tet holiday
Little Angel
Unlike his first brother Filip who was born in the Czech Republic, little angel Mia was "produced" entirely in Vietnam. The joy of a family with both boys and girls, with the cute little girl Mia, has made Nguyen Filip's family shine with happiness, even warmer, filled with laughter. Nguyen Filip said that the happiest person is his older brother Filip.
The goalkeeper of the Vietnamese national team expressed: "Our little girl's name is Mia, and she is very cute. These days, Mia only knows how to eat and sleep, but she makes her brother extremely happy. He is very happy to have a little sister, always finds ways to help Mia and kisses her all day long."
A year ago, during his first Tet in Vietnam with his wife and children, Nguyen Filip felt the warmth of Tet in Hanoi, with its own unique flavor of his homeland, similar but still different from his childhood, when his father, Mr. Nguyen Minh, took him to the 30-hectare Sapa market in the Czech Republic every day. Also on this occasion, his mother, Ms. Eva Vodickova, after watching the 2023 Asian Cup in Qatar with her family, returned to Hanoi to teach her son to cook more traditional Tet dishes in Vietnam. His wife, Aneta, also of Vietnamese blood, made banh chung with friends and relatives and prepared a standard Tet offering tray. This helped Nguyen Filip quickly integrate into life in Vietnam, gradually asserting himself in the colors of the Hanoi Police Club and the Vietnam national team.
Family trip after stressful competition days
The year 2024 is extremely special, bringing moments of sublimation, happiness as well as disappointment for Nguyen Filip.
"In terms of football, my most memorable moment in 2024 was the first match when I debuted for the Vietnam national team at the 2023 Asian Cup (played on January 14, 2024, lost 2-4 to Japan). That is something my father and I have been waiting for for nearly 10 years, after a lot of effort. I really thank the Hanoi Police Club for supporting me a lot so that I could have this opportunity. The worst moment was the 0-3 loss to Indonesia. That loss officially ended my and the Vietnam national team's chances of competing in the third qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup, as well as losing a direct ticket to the 2027 Asian Cup. In football, we will always have joys and sorrows, but the experience in 2024 was truly memorable and special. As for my life off the field, it was wonderful, when I welcomed a new member to the family," Nguyen Filip confided.
Busy but happy Tet
Welcoming this Tet, my first son Filip is 4 years old. After a year of studying in Vietnam, the boy has clearly changed, from a babbling child, his Vietnamese vocabulary has now become much richer.
Mr. Nguyen Minh, the baby's grandfather, shared: "This is a difficult Tet for Nguyen Filip and his wife, the husband is caught up in a tight competition schedule while Aneta is also busy. Of course, I will try to help him have a complete Tet. Especially, the eldest son Filip now knows 3 languages: Czech Republic, Vietnamese and English. Compared to last year, this Tet, "little" Filip can speak Vietnamese fluently and is ready to sing familiar spring songs taught by his teacher at school. I will also teach him how to say New Year's greetings to each person in the extended family, and the etiquette to follow when meeting guests. That can be considered the family's greatest gift in 2024 and towards the year of the Snake ahead."
Despite both joy and sadness in the past year, Nguyen Filip always has an optimistic outlook: "Indeed, I cannot have any complaints about life in 2024. I hope that myself and my family will have more beautiful experiences, success and happiness both on and off the field in this year of At Ty".
10 years of dreaming of wearing Vietnam shirt
Since starting to learn football in the Czech Republic, the word Nguyen affirming Filip's Vietnamese origin has always proudly appeared on the back of his shirt, thanks to the influence of Mr. Nguyen Minh who always wished that his son would one day wear the shirt of his father's Vietnamese national team.
After nearly 10 years of not giving up, overcoming many hardships, thanks to the enthusiastic support of the Hanoi Police Club, Nguyen Filip had a major tournament with the Vietnamese team at the 2023 Asian Cup.
