On the evening of June 30, during his official visit to South Korea, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with officials and staff of the Embassy and the Vietnamese community in Seoul.
Symbol of good relations between the two countries
Reporting to the Prime Minister, Vietnamese Ambassador to Korea Vu Ho said that there are currently 280,000 people of Vietnamese origin living, studying and working in Korea.
The Vietnamese community is very interested and always wants to contribute to the development of the country. Vietnamese students are studying at many prestigious schools in Korea.
The community members unite, support each other, integrate into local social life, and actively contribute to promoting the image and culture of Vietnam in Korea.
Sharing with the Prime Minister, Ms. Huynh Thi Thai (the oldest person, having lived and worked in Korea for 50 years) expressed her pride in seeing Vietnam developing day by day.
She said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and South Korea in 1992, the status of Vietnamese people has been increasingly enhanced. Despite her old age and poor health, she always looks back to her homeland and brings her family back to visit the Fatherland twice a year.
Ms. Do Ngoc Luyen, Chairman of the Rich People's Club (an organization that aims at emotional wealth and love for the homeland) expressed her desire to build the "Vietnamese Village" project to contribute to promoting culture, preserving culture and the roots of Vietnam. From there, it helps Vietnamese children to be proud of their country.
Noting that the Korean Government is very active in supporting this project, Ms. Luyen expressed her hope that the Vietnamese Government will support it. At the same time, she hoped that the Prime Minister would influence the Korean Government to support this project.
Mr. Dao Tuan Hung, Chairman of the Vietnam Business Association in Korea, emphasized that the application of scientific and technological research results into practice has important significance in socio-economic development.
However, he said that the application rate of this in Vietnam is still low and needs to be improved to be more practical.
He suggested that universities need to build a research department connected with businesses and allocate adequate budgets so that scientists can focus on scientific research.
From there, Mr. Hung proposed establishing a scientific research fund to support startups, operating as a venture capital fund.
Taking note of the opinions of overseas Vietnamese, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh shared that the Vietnam-Korea relationship has never been as good as it is now, in all aspects of politics, diplomacy, economy, security - defense, culture, sports and community integration.
This is a favorable condition for the Vietnamese community in Korea to live and work.
The Head of Government also said that the Korean community in Vietnam is the fastest growing community in nearly 40 years of the country's renovation, integrating well into life in Vietnam.
“The two communities are symbols of the good relationship between the two countries,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
The Prime Minister affirmed that the Party and State always consider the overseas Vietnamese community an inseparable part of the Vietnamese ethnic community. This has been clearly stated in Resolution 36 of the Politburo.
This viewpoint has also been expressed and legalized in many regulations, most recently the Land Law, Housing Law, Real Estate Business Law, and Credit Institutions Law.
According to the Prime Minister, these laws have opened up a number of policies for overseas Vietnamese that were previously unavailable.
“The Party and State have no other goal than to make the country strong and prosperous, and the people prosperous and happy,” said the Prime Minister.
Must have the desire to get rich legitimately
Expressing surprise when he first heard about the “Rich People’s Club”, the Prime Minister welcomed the idea of establishing this club. Because aspiration is very important, “without aspiration, how can there be thoughts, actions and solutions”.
This proves that Vietnamese people are not inferior anywhere. “I am very proud and welcome this idea of the Vietnamese community in Korea,” the Prime Minister encouraged, saying that such a club has not been seen in France, the US or Japan.
The head of the Government supports the need to replicate this model in more countries, and there must be a desire to get rich legitimately.
“Getting rich is a cultural trait of our nation and other countries in the world. This is a very good model, a bright spot, a new point that needs to be promoted,” the Prime Minister encouraged.
The Prime Minister also reminded the Embassy to always pay attention and put itself in the position of overseas Vietnamese to handle work, considering their work as handling the work of one's own family or relatives.
"I suggest that in addition to the community helping each other, the Embassy, regardless of day or night, always has a hotline to handle problems so that overseas Vietnamese can feel secure," said the Prime Minister.
Acknowledging and thanking the overseas Vietnamese for their feedback and concerns, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said he would ask the Korean side to create more favorable conditions for Vietnamese citizens to live and work here. This is also the content of the working program of the Vietnamese delegation this time.
In addition, the Prime Minister also said that the Government will continue to study policies to call for and mobilize overseas Vietnamese to contribute to national construction.
“Your success is also the success of the country,” Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said.
