The inauguration ceremony of Phu Phong dam project, organized by the Provincial People's Committee, is an event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Binh Dinh Province Liberation Day (March 31, 1975 - March 31, 2025), towards celebrating the 50th anniversary of the complete liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

At the inauguration ceremony, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tuan Thanh said: Phu Phong Dam Project is a large irrigation project, of great importance to the socio-economic development of Tay Son district and the province; the project aims to proactively ensure irrigation water for 465 hectares of agricultural land and the needs for daily life, industrial production, aquaculture, improve the ecological environment, enhance the value of historical relics in the area, create momentum for the development of tourism and service industries, contributing to the sustainable development of the local economy. At the same time, the project also supplements groundwater resources, connects traffic in the area and takes advantage of water flowing through the dam downstream to generate electricity, with a capacity of 2.9MW.

The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also, on behalf of the provincial government, expressed his thanks to the central authorities and sectors for their attention and support in funding investment, along with the provincial departments and sectors and investors, design consultants, and contractors, who have made many contributions to the early completion of the project. At the same time, he acknowledged and commended the people for sharing and agreeing with the province's policies on development requirements, implementing well the compensation and site clearance policies, and promptly handing over the site to the investor, contributing to speeding up the construction progress to complete the entire project early.

“I request that the People's Committee of Tay Son district and Binh Dinh Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited, which are the units receiving the items of this project, must perform well and be highly responsible in the management, operation and maintenance of the project so that the project is sustainable and brings into full play its highest efficiency,” requested Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tuan Thanh.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that although the investment capital for the Phu Phong dam project is not too large, the project is very beautiful. This project is of great significance to the socio-economic development of Tay Son district in particular and Binh Dinh province in general. The project will serve many purposes such as providing irrigation water for agricultural production, creating livelihoods for people, contributing to ecological regulation for the whole region. The reservoir is also used for aquaculture and tourism development. In addition, this project also connects traffic, supports power generation and provides underground water for people's daily life.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged and praised the spirit of self-reliance and creativity of the Party Committee, government and people of Binh Dinh in recent years, especially in developing transport and cultural infrastructure as well as irrigation reservoir projects, including the Phu Phong dam.

The Prime Minister requested local authorities to develop a plan for effective and sustainable exploitation of the Phu Phong dam project, including activities such as tourism, flood drainage, water supply for production and daily life, transportation, aquaculture, etc. At the same time, it is required to complete the project's settlement in full, avoiding negative aspects. The authorities must also have a plan for people to participate in tourism exploitation, aquaculture and project protection, in order to bring practical benefits to the community and businesses, so that they can fully enjoy the value that this project brings.
