Constantly innovating the method of operation in a way that suits the needs of farmers; paying attention to support and promptly resolving difficulties of members... are important solutions that the Farmers' Association of Quang Lac commune has been implementing, thereby attracting and gathering a large number of farmers to participate. This is also one of the bright spots in attracting and gathering farmers who are ethnic minorities and religious people of Nho Quan district.
Comrade Doan Thi Thu, Chairwoman of the Farmers' Association of Quang Lac commune, said: Quang Lac is a mountainous commune, far from the center of Nho Quan district, with a population of over 7,000 people, of which the Muong ethnic group following Catholicism accounts for 72%, mainly working in agriculture, so the lives of farmers and people are still difficult.
Most farmers of working age work far away, and do not have much time to participate in Association activities, so they are often reluctant to join the Association. The lives of some farmers in the commune still face many difficulties; awareness levels are uneven, so this has a significant impact on propaganda work, implementation of Association tasks in the locality in general and the development of members among ethnic minorities and religious people in particular.
Faced with the above reality, the Standing Committee of the Commune Farmers' Association proposed solutions to overcome difficulties, focusing on innovating the content and methods of operation of the branches to meet the requirements of members, in accordance with the specific work and beliefs of the members.
Farmers' associations in villages and hamlets have promoted propaganda and mobilization forms and sought the support and assistance of dignitaries, officials, and prestigious people in the community to organize activities and seminars, integrated with the Association's activities; propagated and mobilized farmer members who are Catholics to well implement the motto "living a good life, living a good religion", and actively participated in local emulation movements.
According to the Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Quang Lac Commune, one of the important and core issues to attract and gather members is that the Association must truly accompany farmers in their careers and jobs. Determining that, over the years, the Farmers' Association of Quang Lac Commune has paid attention to and implemented well the activities to support farmers in economic development.
Every year, the Farmers' Association at all levels in the commune actively coordinates with relevant levels and agencies to organize science and technology transfer sessions on techniques for caring for and preventing pests and diseases for rice and crops; techniques for caring for and preventing diseases for livestock and poultry... for members and farmers.
In the past 5 years (2018-2023), the Commune Farmers' Association has coordinated with functional agencies to organize 13 science and technology transfer sessions for 1,040 members with a lot of knowledge and skills in planting, raising, caring for and preventing pests and diseases for rice, crops, livestock and poultry, thereby helping members to transform their livestock farming models towards increasing value, efficiency, exploiting the potential and advantages of the locality as well as the financial and human resources conditions of the family.
Capital creation activities to help farmers invest and expand production have also received attention. In the past 5 years, the Commune Farmers' Association has entrusted the District Social Policy Bank with over 9.6 billion VND, lending to 206 member households; mobilized the establishment of 4 joint lending groups at the District Agricultural and Rural Development Bank to lend to 110 households, with an amount of over 10 billion VND; and disbursed 228 million VND from the Farmers' Support Fund at all levels to 10 member households.
From the capital, many farmers have invested in production, maintenance and development of local key agricultural products such as pineapple, cassava and raising pigs, cows, goats, bees, etc., contributing to economic development and sustainable poverty reduction.
Along with supporting farmer members in economic development, the Farmers' Association of Quang Lac commune also actively mobilizes farmers to participate in local emulation movements, especially the emulation movements to build new rural areas, advanced new rural areas, and model new rural areas.
Accordingly, the Farmers' Association at all levels in the commune actively promoted and mobilized farmer members to participate in donating land, contributing over 1.8 billion VND and more than 1,000 working days to join hands to build rural roads, internal irrigation, participate in environmental protection, build a cultural lifestyle..., contributing with all levels, sectors and people in the commune to complete the criteria, bringing Quang Lac commune to meet new rural standards in 2021.
Chairwoman of the Farmers’ Association of Quang Lac Commune, Doan Thi Thu, shared: Innovation in content and methods of operation has helped many farmers see their practical benefits when participating in farmers’ movements, thereby trusting and voluntarily joining the Association. Thanks to that, the Association’s activities and farmers’ movements in Quang Lac Commune have increasingly developed.
Over the past 5 years, the Farmers' Association of Quang Lac commune has admitted 151 new members, including 76 farmers who are religious and Muong ethnic people, bringing the total number of members in the commune to 939, reaching and exceeding the annual membership target of the district. The number and quality of members have been improved, the activities of the Association have become more organized; the role and position of members have been promoted, contributing positively to building a strong Farmers' Association of the commune.
Currently, the whole commune has 8 farmer associations in 8 villages and hamlets, and more than 50% of the members are Muong people who follow Catholicism. In the past 5 years, the Farmers' Association of Quang Lac commune has always been classified by the District Farmers' Association as a unit that has completed its tasks well, including 2 consecutive years of excellent task completion.
