Vietnam Securities Depository (VSD) has just announced information on the number of securities accounts, continuing to record a month of welcoming many new investors to the market.
Specifically, in July, the market had 150,619 new accounts opened. Of which, the number of newly opened domestic personal accounts was 150,351, bringing the number of accounts as of July 31 to over 7.4 million units, equivalent to more than 7% of Vietnam's population.
However, this does not mean that investors in Vietnam have reached 5% of the population - the target set for 2025 in the Project on restructuring the stock market and insurance market 2020 - 2025. The reason is that each individual can only have one account at a securities company but is not limited to opening accounts at different securities companies.
Also according to VDS, July was the third consecutive month that the market welcomed a higher number of newly opened accounts than the previous month and exceeded the hundred thousand units. The number of newly opened accounts in July reached the highest level since September 2022, but was still much lower than the period from May to June 2022, when there were over 400,000 new accounts opened each month.
In addition to the number of individual securities accounts continuously increasing in recent times, the number of securities accounts of foreign organizations has also increased: in July, 28 new accounts entered the market.
According to VDS statistics, since the beginning of the year, the stock market has had nearly 564,600 new securities accounts opened. Notably, the growth rate was rapid from May, June and the highest in July.
Closing the trading session on August 4, VN-Index increased by 15 points (equivalent to 1%) to stop at 1,225 points. Trading liquidity skyrocketed with the trading value on the three floors reaching over 26,000 billion VND.
