In February 2025, domestic pepper prices still increased well, increasing by an average of VND 10,000/kg. The reason is that this year's harvest took place later, so the supply to the market was slow. People have the conditions to store pepper, so they limit selling, pushing up prices. However, towards the end of the month, pepper prices tend to decrease as the new crop begins to hit the market.
According to Ptexim's report, pepper harvesting has begun and is currently being carried out sporadically in various areas... However, the progress of harvesting is still quite slow. It is predicted that in 2025, the harvest season may be longer, with the main harvest possibly taking place in late March or early April.
The Vietnam Industry and Trade Information Center (VITIC) said that China is expected to increase its pepper purchases as soon as Vietnam enters its main harvest season in March and April. Meanwhile, the US may buy more slowly due to remaining inventories from 2024. In addition, Vietnamese pepper will also benefit when the global pepper market in 2025 experiences a decrease in supply.
According to preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs, in January 2025, Vietnam mainly exported black pepper, accounting for 58.9% of the total volume and 57.1% of the total turnover; followed by ground black pepper, accounting for 19.9% of the total volume and 21.65% of the total turnover.
In January 2025, Vietnam's pepper export price increased sharply compared to the same period in 2024, so although the amount of pepper exported decreased, the export value still increased.
Notably, among Vietnam's pepper varieties exported in January 2025, white pepper exports increased in both volume and value compared to January 2024, reaching 1.91 thousand tons, worth 12.96 million USD, up 44.9% in volume and 96.5% in value.
