Monitor the situation of saltwater intrusion and low river water levels, operate to ensure safe water supply during Tet

DNO - The Department of Natural Resources and Environment has just issued Official Dispatch No. 455/STNMT-KSTNN dated January 22, 2024 requesting Da Nang Water Supply Joint Stock Company to closely monitor the situation of saline intrusion and low water level on Yen River, ensuring safe water supply during the Lunar New Year (2025).

Accordingly, to prevent extreme situations that may occur at the same time as a sudden increase in saline intrusion at the water intake of Cau Do Water Plant and the situation of the Yen River's water level dropping, Da Nang Water Supply Joint Stock Company needs to assign personnel to be on duty, ready to deploy water pumping operations from the An Trach saline prevention pumping station upstream of the An Trach dam to Cau Do Water Plant if the Cam Le River water source at Cau Do is contaminated with salinity, to ensure safe water supply for the city.

When the salinity of Cam Le River water at the water intake of Cau Do Water Plant is greater than 1,000 mg/l, the company closes the water intake of the plant and pumps maximum water from Yen River from An Trach salinity prevention pumping station.

Every day, the company monitors and provides information and data (water level, salinity...) to the owners of A Vuong, Dak Mi 4, Song Bung 4, Song Bung 4A, Song Bung 5, Song Bung 6 hydropower reservoirs to coordinate effectively in supplying domestic water to downstream areas.

In case the salinity of Cam Le River water at the water intake of Cau Do Water Plant is greater than 1,000 mg/l and the exploitation of water from An Trach salinity prevention pumping station is not enough to supply water to Cau Do Water Plant, the company shall report to the competent authority for consideration and decision to adjust the operating regime of water discharge from A Vuong, Song Bung 4, Dak Mi 4, Song Bung 4A, Song Bung 5, Song Bung 6, Song Con 2 (level 1) hydropower reservoirs and An Trach dam downstream to reduce the salinity of water sources.
