On April 8, the Ministry of Transport sent a dispatch to the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs expressing agreement with the draft dispatch reporting to the Prime Minister on the proposal to swap working days on the occasion of the April 30 and May 1, 2024 holidays so that workers can have 5 consecutive days off.
The Ministry of Information and Communications also issued an official dispatch agreeing with the draft dispatch of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs reporting to the Prime Minister on the proposal to swap working days on the occasion of the April 30 and May 1, 2024 holidays.
The Ministry of Information and Communications requests the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to review and synthesize according to regulations.
Previously, on April 5, the Ministry of Home Affairs sent a document to the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs agreeing with the proposal to swap working days, take April 29 off, and work another day to compensate so that workers can have 5 consecutive days off.
Thus, there are three ministries that share the same view with the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs on the proposal of 5 consecutive days off for the April 30 and May 1 holidays.
Previously, on April 4, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs issued Official Dispatch No. 1385/LĐTBXH-CATLĐ to solicit comments from ministries and branches on the draft dispatch reporting to the Prime Minister on the proposal to swap working days on the occasion of the April 30 holiday and International Labor Day on May 1, 2024.
According to the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, in 2024, April 30 falls on Tuesday, while May 1 falls on Wednesday, which is a normal working day. Meanwhile, Monday, April 29, falls between the April 30 and May 1 holidays as well as the previous weekend.
Swapping the second working day (April 29) to a compensatory day will help cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers have 5 consecutive days off.
Speaking to the press, Mr. Ha Tat Thang - Director of the Department of Labor Safety, Ministry of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs - said that the proposal to swap working days on the occasion of the April 30 and May 1 holidays aims to extend the holiday, stimulate tourism, develop the economy, and create conditions for people across the country to travel and relax.
The case of exchanging working days to extend the holidays on April 30 and May 1, 2024 is not included in the provisions of the 2019 Labor Code, so the drafting agency must seek opinions from competent authorities.
According to Tuoi Tre Online , the 2019 Labor Code clearly states that the Prime Minister must be consulted on the number of days off for Lunar New Year and National Day on September 2. Meanwhile, holidays such as New Year's Day, Hung Kings' death anniversary, National Reunification Day on April 30, and International Labor Day on May 1, if they coincide with a weekend, will be compensated for in the following work week.
At the request of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, today (April 8), ministries and branches will complete giving comments on the proposal to swap working days to extend the holidays of April 30 and May 1.
According to the 2019 Labor Code, employees are entitled to 11 official paid holidays in 2024. These are New Year's Day (1 day), Lunar New Year (5 days), National Reunification Day (April 30) (1 day), International Labor Day (May 1) (1 day), National Day (September 2) (2 days) and Hung King's death anniversary (March 10 of the lunar calendar) (1 day).
