(NLDO)- Today is the deadline to demolish the illegally built tourist area in Phu Quoc, but all activities here are still going on normally.

On February 22, reporters from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper were present at The Peak tourist area, which was illegally built on Dien Tien mountain, Duong Dong ward, Phu Quoc city, Kien Giang province, on the last day of the deadline required by the authorities to be demolished.

According to the reporter's records, this tourist area is still operating as it was from January 1st until now, with no signs of self-demolition.

To get inside, we had to buy tickets for 150,000 VND/person. Those with permanent residence in Phu Quoc got a discount of 80,000 VND/ticket but had to show their ID.

What caught our eyes was this illegal tourist area with stacked rocks, interspersed with lots of flowers.

Passing through a few stone steps is a bamboo house with a thatched roof on a reinforced concrete basement of several hundred square meters, connected to a check-in bridge for visitors to see the whole view of Phu Quoc City. This is also where the investor operates a food and beverage business with prices considered quite high compared to the general level in Phu Quoc.

"We ordered 2 iced coffees for 140,000 VND but they did not come with water or iced tea, so we asked for more and were given 2 iced coffees without water. I asked why there was no water and the staff said we had to order a 500 ml bottle of mineral water for 45,000 VND. The coffee is acceptable, but the mineral water price of 45,000 VND is too unreasonable!" - Ms. Hoang Anh, a tourist, complained.

Looking at the breakfast menu of this area, a bowl of pho costs 4-5 times more than outside. Specifically, stone bowl pho costs 255,000 VND; Phu Quoc hill chicken pho costs 295,000 VND...

On February 22, exactly 30 days after receiving the penalty decision, the unlicensed tourist area was still operating normally and selling tickets to visitors.

Previously, on January 22, Mr. Tran Minh Khoa, Chairman of Phu Quoc City People's Committee, signed decisions to impose administrative penalties on the investor and landowner of this tourist area, Mr. Tran Van Luong (born in 1974) and Mr. Le Trong Dai (born in 1982, both residing in Ho Chi Minh City), for many violations in the fields of land and construction.

Specifically, Mr. Luong, who rented Mr. Dai’s land to build an unlicensed tourist area, was fined nearly VND375 million for four violations. He was also forced to restore the land to its original condition before the violation and demolish the illegal construction.

The prices of food and drinks in this tourist area are said to be quite high compared to outside.

Meanwhile, Mr. Dai, who leased the land to Mr. Luong, was fined for three violations with a total fine of nearly 150 million VND. At the same time, he was forced to restore the land to its original condition before the violation and demolish the illegal construction.

The deadline for Mr. Luong and Mr. Dai to take remedial measures is 30 days from the date of receipt of the penalty decision.

Mr. Tran Minh Khoa, Chairman of Phu Quoc City People's Committee, said that if the violators do not remedy the consequences or dismantle the violations within 30 days, the authorities will continue to intervene.

As the Lao Dong Newspaper has continuously reported, the land with many violations mentioned above is about 3 hectares wide, including 42 adjacent plots of land owned by Mr. Le Trong Dai as the owner, and has been granted a land use right certificate. Of which, 300 square meters is urban residential land, the rest is land for perennial crops.

In early 2024, Mr. Dai built a house in an area that had not yet changed its land use purpose to residential land, so he was fined by the People's Committee of Phu Quoc City and forced to dismantle the illegal construction.

After dismantling the illegal construction, Mr. Dai contracted to lease the land to Mr. Luong to continue building the tourist area without permission from the authorities.
