(Dan Tri) - After 5 months of piloting, District 1 decided to expand sidewalk rental to 41 more streets. Thus, along with the first 11 pilot routes, District 1 has 52 streets eligible for sidewalk rental.
According to information from the People's Committee of District 1, after piloting sidewalk rental on 11 streets, there were 374 cases of business registration, earning more than 810 million VND. This information was announced at the Conference to summarize the pilot and expand sidewalk rental on the morning of October 25.
Mr. Vu Nguyen Quang Vinh, Vice Chairman of District 1 People's Committee, said that after the pilot period, urban order and beauty in the central area have gradually stabilized. Pedestrian walkways are guaranteed, without traffic conflicts or affecting the safety of pedestrians and vehicles.
Mr. Vinh added that in addition to the 11 pilot routes, 41 other routes also meet infrastructure requirements and do not affect traffic. From October 25, the People's Committee of District 1 officially started collecting fees for temporary use of part of the sidewalk for these 41 routes, in the list of 52 routes that have been issued.
The collection of temporary road and sidewalk usage fees was approved by the 10th Ho Chi Minh City People's Council at its 11th session in September 2023. From January 1, 2024, Ho Chi Minh City will apply new regulations on road and sidewalk management with a collection rate of VND 20,000-350,000/m2/month.
The sidewalk for rent must be at least 3m wide, the business area will be arranged on the residential side and leave at least 1.5m for pedestrians. However, the implementation in many districts has not been completed yet.
Localities are currently continuing to review and supplement the list of roads with sidewalks eligible for toll collection according to the opinions of the Traffic Safety Committee and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport.
