(GLO)- Not afraid of difficulties and hardships, young doctors in Gia Lai regularly participate in volunteer activities to examine and give free medicine to people in remote areas.

On the morning of May 28, a delegation of doctors and nurses from the Provincial Young Doctors Club, Hospital 331, Provincial General Hospital, Children's Hospital, and University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital - Hoang Anh Gia Lai went to Dak Jo Ta commune (Mang Yang district) to participate in the festival "Young doctors follow Uncle Ho's teachings - Volunteer for community life".

The journey was more than 50 km long, but no one seemed tired. Upon arrival, the doctors and nurses quickly coordinated with the commune's youth union members to set up tables, arrange medical equipment, tools, and medicines to be ready to examine and give medicine to the people. Depending on their expertise, the doctors and nurses were in charge of separate areas such as dermatology, trauma, digestion, etc. Each examination area always had the commune's youth union members on duty to support and guide the people on how to use the prescriptions.

Having been notified a few days in advance, people gathered in large numbers at the Commune Cultural House early to wait for their turn to see a doctor. The doctors examined the patients carefully, asked about their symptoms in detail to diagnose and prescribe medication. In mild cases, the doctors prescribed medication, vitamin C supplements, and supplements to increase resistance. When a serious case was detected, the doctor would recommend that the people go to a higher-level hospital for timely treatment.

Ms. Jang (Bong Pim village) said: “My child has been coughing for a week. I have not been able to take him to the doctor because I am busy. When I heard that a group of doctors were coming to examine him, I took him there. The doctor examined him thoroughly and gave him medicine.” Mr. Thu (De Bo Tuk village) shared: “I had a backache, the doctor examined me and gave me medicine. Every time a doctor comes to examine me, the villagers are very happy.”

In just a short time, 30 doctors and nurses provided health check-ups and free medicine to 300 people. In addition, doctors and nurses also instructed people on some methods to prevent skin diseases, dengue fever, diarrhea, etc.; and instructed them on how to install and use the electronic health book by scanning QR codes to capture and manage their own health information.

As a member of the Provincial Young Physicians Club, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Hung - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial General Hospital's Youth Union has participated in medical examination activities at the facility 5 times. "We often go to examine patients in remote areas. Coming to the place, knowing the difficulties and shortages at the facility, we are more aware of our professional responsibilities, thereby constantly improving our professional qualifications, and wholeheartedly taking care of people's health" - Dr. Hung confided.

Over the years, Pleiku City Medical Center has also organized many volunteer activities for the community. Each year, the Center organizes at least 4 activities to examine and give free medicine to ethnic minorities in the city. Each volunteer trip usually has 10-14 young doctors participating. In addition to examining at a fixed location, doctors also visit and give medicine to the disabled and the elderly who have difficulty moving.

Doctor Hoang Thi Loan - Secretary of the Youth Union of Pleiku City Health Center - shared: "I can't remember the number of times I volunteered to examine people. Each trip, although tiring, is extremely meaningful, helping us better understand the living conditions and health of the people, from which we can make efforts to contribute to sharing some of their difficulties."

There are currently 10 young doctors clubs operating in the province. Each year, each club usually organizes 2-5 volunteer activities in remote areas. Activities are usually held on weekends. Instead of resting, doctors and nurses enthusiastically volunteer to go to difficult areas to examine the poor, considering it a way to contribute and share. This work contributes to spreading the noble values as Uncle Ho taught: "A good doctor is like a mother".

Mr. Do Duc Thanh - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Youth Union - informed: "With the motto "Where there are young doctors, there are volunteer activities for community health", in recent times, young doctors and nurses have regularly traveled to remote areas to take care of people's health. This activity has received support from local Party committees, authorities and people. This is an opportunity for young doctors and nurses of hospitals to meet, strengthen solidarity, and join hands for community activities. The Provincial Vietnam Youth Union has guided and gathered young doctors' clubs to establish the Provincial Young Doctors Association in the near future".
