Changing the mindset, working methods, and empowering women and children are the key contents of Project 8 on “Implementing gender equality and solving urgent issues for women and children”. Implementing the project, the Women's Union of Tan Son district has focused on organizing and maintaining the activities of community communication teams with members being ward heads, party cell secretaries, mass organizations, and prestigious people in the residential community with the aim of propagating and mobilizing people in the community to change their mindset and working methods, contributing to eliminating gender prejudices, gender stereotypes in the family and community, and harmful cultural practices.
Members of the community communication team of Xuan Dai, Kim Thuong and Xuan Son communes participated in group exercises in the training program.
Propaganda work is identified as a key solution to change the thinking and working style of people in general, and women in particular, contributing to eliminating gender prejudices and stereotypes in families and communities, harmful cultural practices and some urgent issues for women and children. In the past time, the District Women's Union has directed units to establish 68 community communication teams.
Comrade Dinh Thi Thu Hien - President of the District Women's Union said: "In 2024, the District Women's Union will coordinate with sectors and units to organize 80 communication conferences to improve capacity "Changing thinking and doing" to eliminate gender stereotypes, build a safe living environment for women and children...; limit early marriage and early divorce in residential areas; protect family values, parenting skills in the era of technology 4.0; change thinking and doing ways to link gender equality with good traditional values, implement village covenants and conventions in the community...". The activities of communication teams are also innovated in the form of dramatization to increase the attractiveness to attract people...
In order to improve the effectiveness of communication teams, the District Women's Union organized training courses according to the "Handbook on operating community communication teams" of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union in commune clusters for 760 women's cadres, commune departments and unions and members of community communication teams.
Sharing with us after attending the training course, Ms. Ha Thi Ngoc Anh - Head of the Women's Association of An Muoi area, Xuan Dai commune said: "Since the establishment of the community communication team, the members of the team have promoted their role in promoting economic development for women and accessing loan sources. The communication team also maintains cultural and artistic exchange activities, enhancing solidarity. With the content learned through the training course, members will have more experience and knowledge to maintain effective activities."
Minh Dai High School students are educated about gender equality and domestic violence prevention.
Currently, the District Women's Union maintains communication campaigns to eliminate gender prejudices and stereotypes, and build a safe living environment for women and children through the following channels: Fanpage "Tan Son District Women's Union" and the Union's electronic information page. 100% of commune-level Women's Unions use fanpages, Facebook, Zalo groups to exchange work, transmit information, and promote typical examples to grassroots Unions, branches and members.
In addition, during the year, through conferences and activities, nearly 10,000 leaflets were distributed to promote the implementation of Project 8: Gender equality, early marriage and consanguineous marriage, reproductive health care for adolescents and young people; child health care skills and things to know; implementing Project 8 in conjunction with standards for building a cultural family... The District Women's Union coordinated with the Youth Union, District Police, Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, and Department of Education and Training to organize 12 communication campaigns on education and child protection: Instructions on skills to prevent drowning, prevent sexual abuse, prevent drugs and skills to prevent child safety with nearly 2,000 children and women's union members and youth union members participating.
To create a playground for community media groups, communes and towns, the District Women's Union has coordinated with units to organize competitions, exchange programs and experience sharing. In 2024, the district organized 5 competitions to exchange and share experiences between community media groups in commune clusters for 53 community media groups. Organized a festival competition of creative and effective models in eliminating gender prejudice and gender stereotypes, building a safe living environment for women and children at the district level with 514 contestants participating. Through the activities, a large number of cadres, civil servants, public employees, union members, and women's union members participated, creating a wide spread among cadres and people with a total of more than 5,600 people participating, cheering and following... The contest "Propaganda to eliminate harmful backward cultural practices, gender prejudice and prevent domestic violence" at the district level had 17 commune-level units participating.
