Bung Rieng Commune - considered the dragon fruit growing capital of the province, with an area of over 200 hectares, farmers have been actively lighting and taking care of the trees to sell them at this time. Mr. Le Huu Nghi (Bung Rieng Commune, Xuyen Moc District) said that this is the second lighting period for 450 tree pillars since the beginning of the year to sell them when the dragon fruit price is high. This harvest reached nearly 5 tons, nearly 2 tons higher than the first harvest, and the profit also doubled compared to the previous harvest.

The 5,000m2 red-fleshed dragon fruit garden of Mr. Tran Van Cuu (Bong Trang commune, Xuyen Moc district) is also being harvested at the right time when dragon fruit prices are high, with an estimated yield of about 5 tons. With a selling price of 34,000 VND/kg for type 1; and types 2 and 3 from 28,000-30,000 VND/kg, after deducting costs, he makes a profit of nearly 80 million VND.

Xuyen Moc district has more than 350 hectares of dragon fruit, mainly concentrated in Bong Trang and Bung Rieng communes. After 2 years of being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, dragon fruit was congested, had low prices and could not be consumed. Since the Lunar New Year 2023 until now, prices have increased to a high level, so growers have made a profit. This is the motivation for gardeners to have more capital to invest in the next crops. Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga, Chairwoman of the Farmers' Association of Bong Trang commune, said that many households are currently actively focusing on taking care of dragon fruit trees again to improve quality and plan to expand the planting area.

However, many gardeners are also worried that in nearly a month, when the off-season lighting period ends and dragon fruit enters the main season, high output will cause prices to drop sharply. To improve quality as well as create stable output for dragon fruit, the agricultural sector has recommended that farmers spread out the harvest season according to market demand; popularize models and technical processes to reduce input costs, reduce prices, and cultivate according to VietGAP, organic, and circular standards.
