The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just agreed to extend the operation of Pier No. 2 of Bach Dang Wharf Park (District 1) until the end of 2023. This means that the Ho Chi Minh City-Vung Tau high-speed ferry route of Greenlines DP will resume operation. Previously, this route had to be temporarily suspended due to the expiration of the Bach Dang inland waterway port license.

Pier No. 2, Bach Dang Wharf Park, Ho Chi Minh City (managed by Greenlines DP) is operating high-speed trains from Ho Chi Minh City to Vung Tau and vice versa.

Pier No. 2 of Bach Dang Wharf is temporarily managed by Greenlines DP Company Limited. At this location, the company organizes passenger transport combined with waterway tourism from Bach Dang Wharf to Can Gio and to Vung Tau.

Mr. Tran Song Hai, General Director of Greenlines DP, said that previously, due to the expiry of the wharf license, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport had issued a document requesting Greenlines DP to stop operating the inland waterway wharf at pier No. 2 of Bach Dang wharf park area under the direction of the City People's Committee.

Specifically, from April 1, the unit has temporarily suspended all activities at the wharf area and suspended the Greenlines DP high-speed ferry schedule. At the same time, the city requires Greenlines DP to be responsible for relocating without compensation, liquidating works related to the wharf operations here; not to anchor inland waterway vehicles at wharf No. 2 without permission from the competent authority.

According to Mr. Tran Song Hai, in addition to the expired wharf license, the reason this high-speed ferry route has been temporarily suspended in the past few days is for Ho Chi Minh City to study urban space planning, combining the arrangement of inland waterway wharves in the Bach Dang wharf area, from Khanh Hoi bridge to Ba Son bridge, to convert the function of this wharf into a place for community activities.

Previously, when taking over the temporary management of Bach Dang high-speed train station, Greenlies DP signed an agreement with the state management agency. Accordingly, the company will relocate at any time, without requesting compensation when Ho Chi Minh City requests to take back Bach Dang wharf to serve other planning purposes.

The suspension of the inland waterway terminal at pier No. 2 in the past few days has also caused the Ho Chi Minh City-Vung Tau express train route to temporarily stop operating. "Greenlines DP had to refund nearly 8,000 train tickets to passengers who had previously purchased them. The company also announced the schedule for temporarily suspending train operations on the route. However, many people still came to ask to buy high-speed train tickets from Bach Dang wharf to Vung Tau and vice versa," said Mr. Hai.

Faced with the expected increase in demand for cruise passengers during the April 30 and May 1 holidays, on April 12, the company sent a request to the Department of Transport and the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City requesting to use the Bach Dang Express Train Station inland port to serve passengers.

Based on the proposal of the enterprise, the area of pier No. 2 (the area currently operating the Ho Chi Minh City-Vung Tau high-speed train) has been extended by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for a period of no more than 1 year so that the units can arrange and re-arrange the new location for this high-speed train route. Thus, the enterprise will continue to operate pier No. 2, Bach Dang wharf park.

"After being extended, this high-speed train route will be back in operation in time to serve tourists during the upcoming Hung Kings' death anniversary, April 30 and May 1 holidays," Mr. Hai emphasized.
