To solve this problem, two urgent tasks set by authorities are to promptly repair degraded road sections and strengthen vehicle load control to prevent overloaded vehicles from damaging roads.

* Many "potholes" on the highway

Mr. V.D.H. (residing in Trang Bom Town, Trang Bom District) often drives on National Highway 1 to work in Bien Hoa City. Mr. H. said that in the past few weeks, on National Highway 1, from Bac Son Commune (Trang Bom District) to Tan Bien Ward (Bien Hoa City), many large and small "potholes" have appeared. Most of them are about 30cm in diameter, causing many drivers to be surprised and have to turn sharply or suddenly reduce speed to avoid the "potholes", which is very dangerous for other vehicles on the road.

Similarly, along Highway 51 from An Hoa Ward (Bien Hoa City) to Long An Commune (Long Thanh District), potholes also appear continuously, making traffic participants on the above road very insecure. In particular, the locations recorded by authorities with the most potholes are the area in front of Son Tien Tourist Area, the intersection of Long Thanh Golf Course (Phuoc Tan Ward, Bien Hoa City) and the roundabout leading to Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway (Long An Commune, Long Thanh District).

This situation has been proposed by the People's Committee of Bien Hoa City and the districts of Long Thanh, Trang Bom... to the authorities and relevant units to soon take remedial measures.

Vice Chairman of Trang Bom District People's Committee Do Ngoc Nam said that, in the face of the current situation of National Highway 1 infrastructure continuously deteriorating and being damaged, the District People's Committee has proposed to the Department of Transport and the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee to find solutions. In particular, focusing on handling subsidence and wheel tracks on National Highway 1, from Ho Nai 3 Commune to Trang Bom Town area.

Up to now, many “potholes” and subsidence on National Highway 1 and National Highway 51 are being gradually repaired by the authorities. However, many locations that have just been patched by the management unit have subsided again just a few days later or new cracks and subsidence have appeared right next to them.

* Enhanced load control - road surface protection

At the working sessions on traffic safety in Dong Nai in July and August 2023, representatives of Road Management Area IV (Vietnam Road Administration, Ministry of Transport) said that they had noted the recommendations of the authorities on the situation of "potholes" appearing on national highways and requested the route management unit to handle them. Specifically, the "potholes" that recently appeared on National Highway 1 and National Highway 51 have been continuously patched and repaired.

At the meeting with the Traffic Safety Committee of Xuan Loc District on August 9, Deputy Head of the Traffic Safety Committee of the province, NAO THIEN ANH MINH, requested that the units in charge of maintenance and repair of National Highway 1 continue to coordinate with local authorities in inspecting and detecting infrastructure damage and shortcomings. Thereby, timely adjustments and repairs can be made to ensure traffic safety and road infrastructure.

However, due to the pressure from the continuous flow of cars, Road Management Area IV also requested the functional forces in charge of ensuring traffic safety on national highways to promptly detect and report any inadequacies and infrastructure damage that has just arisen. Thereby, the Area will take measures to inspect and request the responsible unit to handle and ensure traffic safety on the route.

Along with that, the Provincial Traffic Police and the Provincial Traffic Inspectorate are actively checking and controlling the load of trucks and trailers operating on the national highway to protect the road infrastructure. This is controlled by the camera system of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee and inspection teams of the functional forces right from the mines, ports, warehouses... to ensure that vehicles do not exceed the load when going on the national highway.

Chief Traffic Inspector (Department of Transport) Nguyen Phan Trong said that due to the determination in handling cases of oversized and overloaded vehicles, during the peak period of inspection and handling of violations regarding vehicle weight and loading of goods on cars at cargo loading and unloading points (from July 1 to 31), no oversized or overloaded vehicles were recorded. This will continue to be strictly implemented by the Traffic Inspectorate in the coming time, contributing to protecting road infrastructure.
