BTO - The Provincial Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited has just announced an increase in water flow regulation through the spillway of Song Quao and Song Khan reservoirs, Ham Thuan Bac district, expected after 2:00 p.m. on October 17, 2024.
Accordingly, on the evening of October 16, the upstream area of Song Quao and Song Khan lakes had very heavy rain, so the amount of water flowing into the lake was large. At 6:00 p.m. on October 16, the water flow to Song Quao lake reached 477.69 m³/s and the regulated flow through the spillway was 102.99 m³/s. As of 7:00 p.m. on the same day, the water level of Song Quao lake was at +89.87m and was continuing to increase, approaching the normal water level of +90.17m. At Song Khan, at 5:30 p.m. on the same day, the water flow to the lake reached 184.35 m³/s and the regulated flow through the spillway was 19.02 m³/s. As of 7:00 p.m. on the same day, the water level of Song Khan lake was at +108.05 m, exceeding the reinforced water level by 0.2 m and was continuing to increase.
Meanwhile, according to the forecast of the National Center for Hydrometeorology, in the coming days, the province will continue to have rain. Therefore, after 3:00 p.m. on October 17, depending on the amount of water reaching the lake, Binh Thuan Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited will increase the water flow through the spillway of Song Quao Lake to 150 - 200 m³/s to ensure the safety of the project and reduce flooding in the downstream area when heavy rain occurs. At the same time, increase the water flow through the spillway of Song Khan Lake to 20 - 35 m³/s to ensure the safety of the project and reduce flooding in the downstream area when heavy rain occurs.
To avoid damage to people in affected areas, the Company requests the People's Committee of Ham Thuan Bac district and Phan Thiet city to notify localities and people along the flood discharge route of Song Khan and Song Quao lakes to proactively prepare safety prevention plans, especially in communes, wards and towns including Thuan Hoa, Ham Tri, Ma Lam, Ham Chinh, Ham Duc, Ham Thang, Phu Long and Phu Hai.
It is known that due to the impact of heavy rain combined with flood discharge, yesterday afternoon (October 16) in Ham Thuan Bac district, widespread flooding occurred, affecting people's houses, traffic, and crops. On the night of October 16, local authorities and functional forces deployed flood prevention and mitigation work. The locality is currently calculating the damage.
