On October 2, the inspection delegation of the National Committee for Children led by Lieutenant General Tran Ngoc Ha, Director of the Criminal Police Department, Ministry of Public Security, worked with the province on implementing inter-sectoral coordination in preventing and combating child violence and child sexual abuse.
Receiving and working with the delegation were comrade Trang Thi Xuan, member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; leaders of a number of provincial departments and branches.
Currently, Son La has nearly 370,000 children under 16 years old, accounting for 28.16% of the population. All levels, sectors and localities have paid attention to implementing well the work of protecting, educating and caring for children; coordinating to promote propaganda, popularizing legal education, child protection skills, preventing child abuse; supporting and intervening in cases of child sexual abuse. The whole province has established 96 models for preventing and combating domestic violence; 451 groups for preventing and combating domestic violence; 270 hotlines... From December 15, 2023 to September 14, 2024, 21 cases were detected in the province, with 40 subjects abusing 27 children (a decrease of 2 cases, 6 subjects compared to the same period in 2023).
Son La Province recommends that the Inspection Team advise competent authorities to consider adding regulations on handling child abuse to legal documents and laws to increase the severity of child abusers. Add to school subjects or extracurricular activities on teaching skills to prevent and avoid child abuse. Prioritize funding to implement programs and projects to implement policies and laws on preventing and combating child abuse in the province.
Speaking at the meeting, Lieutenant General Tran Ngoc Ha suggested that Son La province strengthen inter-sectoral coordination in preventing child violence and child sexual abuse. Promote propaganda, dissemination, and education to raise awareness of all levels, sectors, and society on child care, education, and protection. Improve the effectiveness of receiving and handling denunciations and reports of crimes. Focus on inspection, evaluation, and supervision of the implementation of legal provisions on children and activities on child protection and care in units and localities.
On this occasion, the National Committee for Children donated 10 million VND to the Son La Provincial Children's Fund; donated 30 million VND to children of martyrs, war invalids, and children of provincial armed forces officers and soldiers in especially difficult circumstances; and donated 100 school bags to students in difficult circumstances in the province.
