Earlier this week, at the Consular Department (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), a ceremony was held to award the certificate of honorary consul general of Pakistan to Mr. Tran Viet Anh , a Vietnamese citizen. The consular area is Ho Chi Minh City, one of the two leading economic regions of the country.
Second Honorary Consul General of Pakistan
Mr. Tran Viet Anh is the second honorary consul general of Pakistan in Ho Chi Minh City. The first was Mr. Duong Quoc Thai, also a businessman.
It is known that Mr. Tran Viet Anh is Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City Business Association and President of Vietnam Waste Recycling Association.
Sharing with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Tran Viet Anh said that as a businessman with an export business to many countries, he also has many opportunities with Pakistan.
When asked what his priorities are in his new position, he said he will continue to maintain and do a good job of protecting citizens, creating better conditions for Pakistani citizens to live and work in Ho Chi Minh City, comply with Vietnamese laws, thereby contributing to understanding between the people of the two countries.

Bridge for Vietnam - Pakistan businesses
Vietnam is the gateway to the Southeast Asian market, while Pakistan is an important bridge for Vietnam to access the Central and Southwest Asian regions. Therefore, having an honorary consul general of Pakistan in Ho Chi Minh City is expected to contribute to promoting trade turnover between the two countries.
The new Honorary Consul General shared that he plans to hold an event in Ho Chi Minh City in mid-September for Vietnamese and Pakistani businesses to meet and establish relationships with each other at the event.
"Pakistan is a very potential future market for Vietnamese businessmen, with more than 230 million people," Mr. Tran Viet Anh raised the issue with Tuoi Tre Online .
According to him, Vietnam and Pakistan also have many similarities, as both are developing countries, so investment opportunities for Vietnamese enterprises are also very large. He aims to call on Pakistani enterprises and investors to come to Ho Chi Minh City, especially in the textile industry, a field in which Vietnam has strengths and a position in the world.
According to the honorary consul general, there are many areas where the two countries can support and complement each other, including the Halal market. The reason is that the majority of Pakistan's population is Muslim, so the demand for Halal food is large.
Vietnam is also pursuing the Halal market, so Pakistan's 230 million people are a big market for Vietnamese businesses that are gradually finding a place on the global Halal map.
Halal can be said to be the "goose that lays the golden eggs". The Global Islamic Economic Report estimates that spending on Halal food is growing rapidly from 1.4 trillion USD in 2020 to 1.9 trillion USD in 2030, and nearly 5 trillion USD in 2050.
In 2023, the Prime Minister issued a decision approving the project "Strengthening international cooperation to build and develop Vietnam's Halal industry by 2030". It provides major national orientations on mobilizing international resources to build and develop Vietnam's Halal industry in a systematic, professional and comprehensive manner.
Vietnam and Pakistan established diplomatic relations in November 1972, but so far they only have embassies in each other's capitals. In 2023, two-way trade turnover reached nearly 700 million USD.
