On October 16, information from the Center for Disease Control of Ha Tinh province said that from October 1 to now, in Huong Khe district, 38 patients with rash fever suspected of measles were recorded, aged 2-9.

Of these, Huong Trach commune has the most patients, with 31 cases. These patients came to the medical facility for treatment with typical symptoms of fever of 38.5 - 39.5 degrees Celsius, rash all over the body accompanied by itching.

The Health Department of Ha Tinh province is speeding up the progress of measles vaccination for people.

Currently, 10 samples of patients in Huong Trach commune have tested positive for measles virus, other samples are continuing to be tested.

The first case was a 6-year-old patient (residing in Huong Trach commune) who had a fever, rash, and runny nose. The family took the child to Huong Khe District Medical Center for treatment. Epidemiological investigation showed that the child had not been vaccinated against measles before.

The measles outbreak in Huong Khe District is the second outbreak to appear in Ha Tinh Province since the beginning of the year. Previously, a measles outbreak also appeared in Duc Tho District with 66 cases, mainly cases spreading in schools. The total number of measles cases in the province since the beginning of the year is 76 cases and this number is expected to increase when the test results of other patients in Huong Khe District are available.

According to Mr. Nguyen Chi Thanh, Director of the Center for Disease Control of Ha Tinh province, the appearance of measles cases was warned early by the province's health sector. However, due to the erratic weather and the fact that about 5% of the population has not been vaccinated or is not fully vaccinated against measles, many people have contracted the disease. In addition, some patients with suspected symptoms were not treated promptly, leading to the spread of the disease, especially in schools.

"Currently, all localities in the province have measles vaccines to meet the vaccination needs of the people. The Ha Tinh Health Department has just allocated an additional 2,478 doses of vaccine to some localities where the rate of children from 1 to 10 years old has not been fully vaccinated according to regulations and priority is given to medical staff at high risk of infection when performing medical examination and treatment tasks," said Mr. Thanh.

Faced with the potential risks of measles, the Ha Tinh Provincial Health Department recommends that people absolutely do not be negligent. Take the initiative to vaccinate children against measles, fully and on schedule. Do not let children come near or come into contact with children suspected of having measles and wash hands with soap regularly when caring for children. Keep children's bodies, noses, throats, eyes and mouths clean every day. Ensure that houses and toilets are airy and clean.
