The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Ngai province will take the stage to explain the inadequacies of seafood processing and export.

The number of vehicles and fishing output are "top", but the processing output and seafood export turnover of Quang Ngai only reached 0.3 - 0.5%, compared to the total output and turnover of the whole country in the past year, is a content that the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will take the floor to answer at the end of 2024 meeting of the Provincial People's Council.

On the morning of November 17, according to information from Dan Viet reporters, at the provincial People's Council meeting at the end of 2024, the Quang Ngai government requested the heads of many departments and branches to take the stage to explain and answer a series of "hot" contents and issues that voters and people proposed and reflected, including the agricultural sector.

Notable issues that the Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Ngai will explain and answer at the Provincial People's Council meeting at the end of 2024 include notable contents related to the fisheries sector; funding sources for the National Target Program on New Rural Construction, and financial support for localities to develop rural tourism.

Specifically, with many advantages in developing exploitation and aquaculture, according to the Vietnam Statistical Yearbook 2023, Quang Ngai has 3,349 fishing boats with a capacity of 90CV or more.

With the above number of vehicles, Quang Ngai accounts for 9% of the total number of fishing vessels in the country and ranks 3rd in the country (after Binh Dinh province with 3,581 vessels and Kien Giang with 4,315 vessels), with the output of aquatic products caught in 2023 being 283,001 tons, accounting for 3% of the total aquatic product output in the country and ranking 12th in the country.

However, in contrast to the number of fishing vessels and seafood exploitation output of Quang Ngai being among the "top", the province's seafood processing and export sector is sluggish and has many limitations.

Specifically, the processed seafood output in 2023 of Quang Ngai only reached 0.5% of the total processed seafood output of the whole country (the whole country is 2,209 thousand tons); the seafood export turnover of the province in 2023 also only reached 29.6 million USD, accounting for 0.3% of the export value of the whole country (the whole country is 9 billion USD), behind many provinces and cities in the Central region such as: Binh Dinh, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa...

Therefore, at the upcoming 2024 year-end meeting of the Provincial People's Council, the Quang Ngai government requested the Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to state the causes and solutions for developing the fishing and aquaculture industry in general and seafood processing and export in particular, in the coming time.

Developing rural tourism and community tourism aims to promote the potential and advantages of agriculture, craft villages, culture and ecological environment of localities, to improve the quality of material and spiritual life of rural people, contributing to the transformation of rural economic structure. However, rural tourism products in the province are currently monotonous, not highly competitive, lacking in facilities, and operating seasonally.
